Absolute Must Have

As we look to move into the second quarter of the NFL season, we have some certainties, one of which is Tom Brady!  Aug 16, 2013; Foxborough, MA, USA; New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (12) throws a pass against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the first quarter at Gillette Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Stew Milne-USA TODAY SportsHe has started off the season as the highest producing player on FanDuel and #3 on Draftkings. This week he is our #1 overall Absolute #MustHave! This is the game we have been waiting for since the Colts called shenanegans on the Pats last post season. Not only have the Patriots owned them of late, they have blown them off the planet. This game doesn’t seem to have any more to it than that but I will say that by enlarge the Patriots have beat the Colts down by running the ball with an extra lineman into block. Look for Brady to exceed his projection of 26.12 on Draftkings this week as they have different weapons this year and I suspect that Lewis, Gronk and Edelman will all get into the mix, not just Blount! I believe that Gronk get’s back on the TD train, Patriots roll the Colts by 29, just like they have averaged since Andrew Luck came into the league.

FanDuel Projection – 22.89  Draftkings Projection – 26

***Reminder Must Have’s are salaries that are $7,800 and higher

Absolute Notable

For FanDuel our top Notable for week 6 is Ryan Fitzpatrick, coming in with a projection of 17.77 and a positive projection to spend ratio of 2.24.  He is coming off a bye week last week and the Washington secondary is not very good.  Aug 24, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton (14) throws in the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY SportsLook for Brandon Marshall to also have another solid performance again this week. On Draftkings, we have Andy Dalton. What can I say about his play this season, simply amazing.  I have started him on one lineup every week since week 2 and he has outperformed our projection each time this season. The Bills defense is supposed to be stout but did you know that they have given up at least 22 fantasy points to every QB this season except Mariota last week.  He was close but look who Tennessee has, certainly no AJ Green over there, look for Dalton to continue his top 5 play again this week and put up 25 fantasy points.  On Draftkings as his salary is far lower than his production so far this season so give him a shot, you won’t be disappointed. His Draftkings Projection is 20.85.

***Reminder Notables are salaries between $5,200 and $7,800

Absolute Sleeper

fanduelNow for the category that most, if not all of you are really looking for.  Each week we have nailed our #Sleeper for the week and that is why we have been so consistent in winning on both FanDuel and Draftkings!  Drum roll please………….Ryan Fitzpatrick is our Absolute Sleeper on Draftkings this week. Ryan Fitzpatrick_headshots_250He comes in with a Draftkings Projection of 16.58 and a salary of only $5,000. I know that you might be looking for a different position here but our Absolutes are based off of a combination of projection and matchup value for the week.  While Washington has a descent statistical value this season, the value for Fitzpatrick is there.  If you took McCown last week, who was in a similar situation, you blew it up last week and Fitzpatrick is that guys this week, trust me.  Our FanDuel Absolute Sleeper is C.Santos for the Chiefs.  Yeah, I know a Kicker, come on MAN! The truth is, the Cheifs are going to struggle to put the ball in the end zone with Charles gone for the season, look for big points out of this young man.  My personally selection for this week’s #Sleeper is Antonio Andrews of the Tennessee Titans.  Andrews is averaging 13.8 fantasy points per game on Draftkings this season and Miami comes in with the highest projected rush yards against for the week.  He is only $3,400 so for that price, you can afford some higher priced folks this week.

***Reminder that Sleepers are salaries under $5,200

#NFL Week 5 #FanDuel Retrospectacle + The Best Of Steve Spurrier and 5 Coaches for USC

NFL Week 5 Retrospectacle: Next Man Up for Charles-less Chiefs

NFL Week 5 had it’s usual studs and duds, but the Chiefs are in trouble after possibly losing Jamaal Charles for the rest of the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles (knee) is expected to be ruled out for the season after an MRI finds his ACL is torn. Charcandrick West ($6,200 for Week 6) and the mysteriously absent Knile Davis ($5,500) become potential bargains.

West had taken over as Charles’ backup, but frankly neither West nor Davis were doing much behind Charles. Now Andy Reid’s Chiefs are left to resort to those young backups, or Alex Smith ($7,000) throwing to the emerging Travis Kelce ($6,200) and the steady veteran Jeremy Maclin ($7,200).…..(continue reading)

TOP 10 STEVE SPURRIER MOMENTS

GettyImages-153590349

  • You already know by now that legendary college football coach Steve Spurrier has retired, effective immediately. The man has done a lot in his career. He’s won big games, talked lots of smack and shared his larger-than-life personality with America. So we thought we’d combine all those into a single list to give the Head Ball Coach a proper farewell……(continue reading)

5 USC HEAD COACH CANDIDATES

HarsinHeltonGundy

  • USC’s suddenly vacant head coaching position (due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the recently fired Steve Sarkisian) reignites a rumor mill that ran rampant just two years ago. After Lane Kiffin’s firing in September 2013, a wish list that was as long as it was unrealistic got play from national media.  Like last time, NFL coaching names will surface. USC alumni Jack Del Rio and Jeff Fisher are almost assuredly to be rumored this time around, but a new unlikely candidate emerges……(continue reading)

This week as he is our #1 overall Absolute #MustHave! Tom gets to exploit the Cowboys defense this weekend, where the Cowboys have McClain and Greg Hardy coming back. Seeing that Greg Hardy still seems to think that we don’t know how awful and disgusting his actions were in Carolina, he seemingly felt the need to make derogatory comments about Brady’s lovely wife and his expectations of her friends, read more here. This just cemented my pick for my daily fantasy QB on Draftkings and FanDuel this week. Look for Brady to exceed his projection of 26.12 on Draftkings this week. The extra week to prepare should mean that Gronk get’s back on the TD train, Patriots roll the Cowboys by at least 3 touchdowns.

FanDuel Projection – 22.65  Draftkings Projection – 26.12

***Reminder Must Have’s are salaries that are $7,800 and higher

Absolute Notable

For FanDuel our top Notable for week 5 is Blake Bortles.  He is coming off a strong performance and gets to face the lowly Bucs this weekend.Aug. 24, 2013; Glendale, AZ, USA: Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (11) runs the ball in the second quarter against the San Diego Chargers during a preseason game at University of Phoenix Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Coming in with a FanDuel Projection of 17.01, he might be a good cheap play at QB this week.  On Draftkings, we have Larry Fitzgerald. What can I say about his resurgence this season.  I took him in Week 2, more so because he was the best player left in that specific salary range and all he did was blow up.  He has been MR. Consistent since that time and should be considered in all lineups on Draftkings as his salary is far lower than his production so far this season.  Look for him to have another solid week with 8 catches for 133 and 1 touchdown against the Lions.  His Draftkings Projection is 23.68.

Drum roll please………….Dion Lewis is our Absolute Sleeper on Draftkings this week.  He comes in with a Draftkings Projection of 15.53 and a salary of only $4,800.  Dallas cannot stop anyone and NO, I don’t think Hardy does anything to change that this week.

Sep 22, 2013; Landover, MD, USA; Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson (25) returns a kick during the first half against the Detriot Lions at FedEX Field. Mandatory Credit: Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Lewis is going to get 6 catches per game and as long as he gets 40 yards and a touchdown, this is a great pick.  Our FanDuel Absolute Sleeper is Gostkowski for the Patriots.  As you can see our DiRT Canon AI DC*3PO is all over a huge New England victory this week and so am I.  My personally selection for this week’s #Sleeper is Chris Thompson with Washington.  The Falcons are giving up the most fantasy points to running backs so far this season and Thompson looks to get added playing time with Matt Jones on the sideline and a trust issue with Alfred Morris.  This is very high risk so let’s see if we get high reward.

***Reminder that Sleepers are salaries under $5,200

Strategic Planning

With the complexity of building your daily MLB fantasy baseball lineup, we wanted to provide you with some of the strategic evaluations that we implement in our systematic approach to selecting players each day.  We want your feedback, please go to our DiRTy Plays for the week, let us know what other information you would like or feel you need.  If you just want our lineups, that’s great, just answer one quick question so we can ensure we have those features available in the future.

Start Small: Do not jump into an expensive tournament without understanding how it all works. Try a freeroll or some of the cheaper games. You’ll start to understand when to spend on a big hitter or when to roll the dice on a cheap player.

Righty/lefty splits are HUGE:With daily play, you will want to play right-handed hitters against left-handed pitchers, and left-handed hitters against right-handed pitchers. This is usually the most important thing to consider when working on lineups. Knowing that Josh Donaldson hit 50 points higher against left-handed pitchers last season, with a ton of power, should make a difference in your lineups — when he faces lefties.

Ballpark factors are very important:Take into consideration which parks are best for hitters (Coors Field, Citizens Bank Park, Great America Ball Park, Camden Yards and U.S. Cellular Field) and which parks are best for pitchers (Marlins Park, PNC Park, AT&T Park, Target Field, PetCo Park or O.co Coliseum) when determining a daily lineup.

Consider lightly, batter vs. pitcher stats:You might believe how this hitter has a .424 batting average against this pitcher, and how this hitter has just three hits in 21 at-bats against this pitcher. But be careful and not let that affect your lineup as much as their righty/lefty splits or the park in which they’re playing. Think of it this way: the more a batter sees a pitcher, the better he can figure him out — and vice-versa. Generally speaking, these sample sizes are not big enough to give too much credit.

50/50 games are your friends:One of the quickest mistakes people make when they play daily games is that they want to jump into the big tournaments and try to turn a few bucks into a big payday. The odds are very much against you, and you’re likely going up against veteran players that have multiple entries in the tournament. But in 50/50 or Head-to-Head games, you only have to finish in the top 50 percent of the entrants, rather than the top 15 percent.

Consider longshots in tournaments:When you play in tournaments, you’re up against large numbers of people, so if you take Tulo, and most of them also take Tulo, then you all just cancel each other out. But if you start Santana, saving $5,000 in salary cap space, you’ll have a chance to put that money elsewhere in your lineup — granted, you’ll still need to get points out of Santana, but that’s the trick. With that said, you still need some good players in your lineup, but you might want to pepper in some longshots with decent matchups.

Steer clear of longshots in 50/50 games:Since you only have to beat half the field to win, there’s no reason to take big chances. You don’t want to score the highest in the group, you just want to be above half the teams. Don’t reach for a pitcher you have a hunch on, or a gimpy player you think will leg it out.

On-base percentage is key:Make sure you check the differences in scoring if you play on multiple sites. Most sites will give you points for standard fare, like hits, total bases, RBI and runs, but some will also give you points for walks. When you’re scrambling for players near the bottom of the barrel, try to find players with decent on-base percentages.

Big hitters can make a big difference:There are some daily fantasy baseball sites that deduct points if a player gets an out, and then more points if that player strikes out.  A Home-Run Hitter usually is going to do one of three things: draw a walk, strike out, or hit the ball out of the park.

Don’t pay for catchers:Just like in traditional play, catchers are necessary evils in daily fantasy baseball. But you can pay for a lower salaried catcher that has a good matchup, and not roll the dice on a much more expensive catcher — and you’ll be just fine. They just don’t do enough offensively day in and day out to make them worth their high salaries.

Pay for wins and strikeouts:You might have a hunch on a pitcher against a mediocre team, but your fantasy roster should be led by one or two pitchers that are facing bad teams. You want a pitcher that racks up innings and strikeouts, with a shot at a win at the end.

Let Twitter help you:By working closely with Twitter, you’ll be able to find out when a player has been scratched from the lineup, giving you ample time to swap him out of your daily fantasy lineup. Also, you’ll see what other players and writers are leaning toward, giving you an edge on your opponents.
