What No One Tells You About #Winning Tuesday

All Aboard the S.S.TD:

The Gronk.  Lovable meathead, really good tight-end for the Patriots just disembarked from his “Party-Cruise”.  The debaucherous, drunken revellry seemed to be on par with another party that comes to mind in the Big Easy, and according to social media, it was.  However, while everyone was re-living the halcyon days of Sodom & Gamora and being tailed by “intrepid” journalists to “document” the event – we need to ask this question – How is Manziel any different?

Is it because Gronk is a Pro-Bowler, a Superbowl Champion and has never been accused of striking a woman?  Why do we treat Gronk as lovable meathead and Manziel a loser for being the same Teddy Bro-sevelt?  At some point we should stop demonizing notorious behavior while applauding another as we maintain our upright moral status with the rest of the swine.  Then again, how much could you have had on this hedonistic cruise?

If you follow along with us, then you know Mondays are prettay prettaaay prettaaaay special when you read our 5pt plays and build your lineups with our LineupAnalyzer.  Or maybe you were too caught up in listening to another hit from the dark-side of the moon and the Apollo 10 astronauts…Either way, you can read The United Stats of #Murica #NBA edition for a review or read these 5 takeaways:

  • Warriors become the fastest team to 50 wins in NBA history by beating Hawks. It got interesting. Atlanta became the latest team to make a big run on Golden State and force a response. Portland did it most of the game, but the 13-turnover third quarter for the Warriors put that game out of reach. The Clippers game seemed to be in garbage time until a 13-0 run late gave Los Angeles a chance to tie (the shot fell short). Then Monday night the Warriors were in complete control up 23 in the third quarter, when the Hawks went on a 33-6 run and took the lead. These lapses are a combination of factors. The Warriors have some mental vacations, they get bored it seems, but also teams are not just rolling over for them. Good teams that have pride. The result is the Warriors having to work hard for games where it felt like they were in control.
  • Channing Frye makes his debut for Cavaliers but Pistons spoil the day. Cavaliers fans got to see the guy they gave up Anderson Varejao for Monday night (not that much was expected of Channing Frye in his debut, he’s had basically no practice time with the team). Frye played nine minutes for the Cavaliers, missed both his threes, and looked like the new kid trying to fit in. He’ll find a more comfortable groove.
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo finishes the off-the-backboard alley-oop. Yes, it still counts if you do it against the Lakers’ defense. The Bucks picked up a win and the Greek Freak had maybe the highlight of the night.
  • Pistons void Donatas Motiejunas trade with Rockets over concerns about his back.Stan Van Gundy has coveted Motiejunas for years — a true 7-footer who can bang inside and is shooting 41.2 percent from three this season. He’s a perfect fit on paper for the inside-out offense Van Guyndy is trying to set up in Detroit.
  • Kyle Lowry puts up triple-double. Does it still count if Jose Calderon is guarding him? Kyle Lowry and the Raptors went into Madison Square Garden on Monday night and looked every bit the second best team in the East, with an unstoppable backcourt led by Kyle Lowry. Going up against the porus defense of Jose Calderon, Lowry did what he wanted on the way to 22 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds, and the Raptors picked up a comfortable win 122-95.

The NFL withheld a big chunk of money from the NFLPA. (USATSI)

The NFL Player’s Association (NFLPA) was on the winning side of an arbitration that’s expected to cost the NFL more than $100 million.

Arbitrator Stephen Burbank sided with the NFLPA over an issue that had to do with the pool of revenue (or shared revenue pool) that the NFL splits with its players. According to the Wall Street Journal, the league is going to have to return about $120 million in revenues that it wrongly collected over the past three years.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke talks to the media during a press conference, Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, in Phoenix. The phrase “play the game the right way” is vague, so it’s usually tough to know exactly what someone means when they use the phrase. Hitting batters as revenge, for example, could be “right” if you’re an old-school baseball type, or it may be wrong to someone else. NL West managers say the Diamondbacks “play the game the right way,” Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

FanDuel Lineups2015NBA100DMnoLogo_728x90_en.jpg

NBA_FD_MonLooking at tonight’s matchups, we have a few guys that have some injuries that will lead to more playing time for some of the cheaper players. Tonight look for Muhammed to have a much larger role for the T-Wolves tonight as he is expected to play 22 minutes. This will lead to a 20+ point performance on FanDuel tonight and with his salary, this is how you can get Mr. Westbrook. Another player for the T-Wolves to look out for tonight is Kevin Martin. He is going to get the start at SG and coach Mitchell has already stated that he expects Martin to shoot it often in the starting lineup. Last guy to consider for FanDuel #Sleeper tonight is Ersan Ilyasova. This veteran has been playing some consistent ball of late and since being inserted into the starting lineup with Drummond, he is averaging 24.6 fantasy points per game. He stretches the floor for Drummand and that allows for Drummond to control the glass, play them together and look for a nice 80+ point performance amongst these these to two players.

DraftKings Lineups

NBA_DK_MonOn DraftKings we have our standard 3 lineups as we continue to flush out the most productive models for you to use moving forward. Our first lineup is all about consistency, so we have built a lineup based on what that player has done over their last 5 games. This team’s last 5 game average would get you a DraftKings score of 286 points, which is good enough to cash 78.6% of the time so far this season in the Sharpshooter contests. Our second lineup is all about max projection. When looking at the theoretical performance of each player and the maximum potential, we have built this lineup as this lineup has a top max projection score of 357.84. That would get you in the top 10 over 96% of the time in the Sharpshooter contest.  As you can see, there are several players that aren’t in the starting lineup so it’s all about the points per minute played and what their opponent gives up to that players position per minute.  Then we look at the most points each of these players has scored in a game this season to get our max projection. I like to call it the high risk, high reward because most of strategies and lineup creation models are not necessarily designed to have the most points, they are designed to win. In looking for the W each day, you sacrifice things like ownership percentage i.e. how many other entrants will have this player and then max projection because you are going to get a ton of guys that don’t normally produce high point totals that have a chance at that for this particular contests. Most would call this a #Sleeper but we consider the #Sleeper position to only be players under the salary of $5,200. Last we have the highest projected team total with a team projection of 281.47 and that would cash in the Sharpshooter contest 71.4% of the time. Top Projections &Toughest Matchups

Based on feedback from you, we are changing this section up just a bit by expanding to all positions. In order to do so we wanted to provide you with some definition behind the data we are providing.weekly_top5_wk9

  • FanDuel Toughest Matchups – Top 5 players with the toughest matchup, based on TheDiRTCanon opponent value with a minimum projection for the needed score to #Win for FanDuel.

At The DiRT Canon, our matchups not only consider what the player’s opponent has given up to a position, we go all the way down to the depth chart position for that player and what that defense has given up to that position.  We also consider, this information for the current season and ever in the past along with incorporating home or away. We have then added our own personal flavor where we don’t bother providing you with players that aren’t going to play or are basically irrelevant so we have established a custom figure of projection for each position that we also filter by. What does this mean? It means that we aren’t going to tell you some third string guys whom have the lowest opponent value for the week but instead we are looking to display players that are expected to at least get you the minimum amount of points needed from that position in order to #Win.  Just click Weekly_Top5_wk9 for the full report. Intelligence & Analysis

The first half of the season is in the books and now we enter the back half of the NFL season. This means it is crunch time for you to #Win from this point forward. Let’s breakdown this weekends games and players you should be looking to take. Starting with the QB position, this position has been interesting as last week was the first time where you had to have one of the top 3 QB’s or you weren’t going to be in the money. In most weeks, you could have almost taken any QB and still have a shot at winning so long as you had 3 of the top 5 skill positions. For this week, it appears that we will be back to the norm in terms of QB need but our top 3 QB’s are Tom Brady, Philip Rivers and Drew Brees. I don’t think there is much difference between these three guys but Brees has the most difficult matchup in terms of passing yards against.  Personally, if the weather holds up Jameis Winston is a very cheap but viable option this weekend. Another sleeper to consider would be Tyrod Taylor as he is 3rd in overall scoring for players that are eligible for the Sun-Mon contests and with a DraftKings price of only $5,300, he should be one to take a strong look at as he comes back from a knee injury and almost 3 full weeks of rest. Moving onto the RB position, Gurley is no longer a cheap #MustHave for this week as his salary tops the FanDuel RB’s but he is still someone that you should consider. Freeman gets the 30th ranked rushing defense, combined with the fact that he is averaging 5 receptions per game over his last 5, he will get at least 20 points with a shot at the 30’s this weekend. Looking for a #Sleeper in the RB position, there are four cheap options, none of which pose much risk in terms of needing to achieve that 20 point threshold. These players are Darren McFadden, Jeremy Langford, Jonathon Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. In terms of rank order for confidence rating, Williams #1, McFadden #2, Langford #3 and Steward #4. Let’s finish with the WR position. Julio Jones is leading the NFL in receiving yards and while he isn’t as productive on FanDuel, he is a must start on DraftKings because he simply gets 9.5 catches per game. Some cheap guys that you should consider this weekend are #1 Stephon Diggs, #2 Tavon Austin, #3 Tedd Ginn, #4 Rishard Matthews. DC*3PO has Alshon Jeffrey as the #1 overall WR this weekend and I have to agree. Taking Julio with Alshon and one of these sleepers, should get you around 85+ fantasy points at your WR position and put you in position to take home some serious cash! Intelligence & Analysis

Based on this week’s report, what can we ascertain for week 8? Well, given that Tom Brady is already in the books and yes, he scored over 30 yet again, you almost have to take him right now. That said, that would have only helped you on a few contests this week but we know you are looking for the lineup that will #Win for the Sun-Mon matchups! So let’s break that down. Philip Rivers is #3 in QB’s so far this season and he gets to play against the Baltimore secondary this weekend. Even though he is traveling across the country, let’s face it, Baltimore can’t cover anyone and San Diego knows has to throw the ball 50 times to even compete. Combine that with the Chargers inability to run the ball at all, this is an easy play for this weekend. Moving onto RB’s for this weekend, we have Doug Martin and DeVonta Freeman leading the charge in overall scoring for the season. They play each other this weekend and so if you can take them both, I suggest it, as the last two times they both played on the same day, they ended up leading the league in scoring…BOTH TIMES! Let’s finish today with our WR breakdown. Personally, I like Steve Smith Sr. this weekend as the top over/under for this weekend is the Ravens and Chargers and this should be a passing game all day, look for Smith and Allen to have big games. That said, our top 5 report shows Hopkins and Julio Jones, both of which are very expensive so you won’t be able to take all of these guys. What should you do? Come and check out our Lineup Analyzer™ here and let our system give you some additional recommendations!

Teaching You How to #Win – #NFL Week 7 Absolutes

Week 7 Absolutes

name of site - hunter thompson style

Absolute Must Have

Week 7 is upon us and for the 3rd straight week our DraftKings Absolute Must Have is Tom Brady. Aug 16, 2013; Foxborough, MA, USA; New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (12) throws a pass against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the first quarter at Gillette Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Stew Milne-USA TODAY SportsHis Projection for this week is 26.06 and really why not, he has put up 26 points in consecutive weeks but he does get the Jets defense this weekend. They have given him fits in the past and now we get to see if that was because of Rex Ryan or the talent on the Jets defense. Right now, he is about the most consistent play you can make at QB so look for another solid performance from Brady.  On FanDuel we have Cam Newton. He comes in with a projection of 23.62 on FanDuel and a plus 5.39 on our projection to spend ratio.  This means he only needs to be worth 18.23 to be of value for his salary this weekend. He goes up against the Eagles defense which has been playing lights out of late. With only Olsen to throw to, look for that combo again this weekend but if it were me, I would stick to Brady or look for a cheaper player at QB and avoid Newton this week.

***Reminder Must Have’s are salaries that are $7,800 and higher

Absolute Notable

Aug 22, 2013; Baltimore, MD, USA; Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (1) drops back to pass against the Baltimore Ravens defense at M&T Bank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

On DraftKings this week our Absolute #Notable is Cam Newton. He comes in with a pretty cheap salary and that has to be due to the defense he is up against this week. I don’t see the Eagles completely shutting them down but I could see them holding the Panthers in the upper teens which bodes for field goals and not touchdowns.  His projection of 23.13 is one of the highest of the week but I suspect he will only get around 18 points and there are cheaper options that will produce much more for you this week. Moving onto FanDuel, we have Josh McCown and his 19.32 projection. What can you say about this guy? Since getting knocked out against the Jets and missing the following week due to concussion protocol, he has been a top 5 QB each week including a week 5 top play, just as we accurately projected. His plus 3.79 value, makes for a strong consideration this week and someone I would consider at this point in the week. Check back on Sunday to get our final analysis.

***Reminder Notables are salaries between $5,200 and $7,800

Absolute Sleeper

fanduelFor FanDuel our Absolute #Sleeper this week is Stephen Gostkowski. He comes in with an amazing projection of 14.89 and really is there another kicker to consider at this point in the season? I don’t think that there is, he has had at least 2 FG’s in every contest and the Patriots are on a mission, look for this to continue. I like the Rams D on FanDuel as my overall Sleeper and if you are looking for a positional player to consider at this price point, I would suggest Ladarius Green. The Raiders are giving up the most to TE in fantasy this season by a long shot and even with Gates on the field, he is still producing. Combine that with the fact that almost no one will take him when they can take Gates so that might bode well for you in the long run.

Aug 8, 2013; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (85) receives a 20 yard pass against the Seattle Seahawks at Qualcomm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jody Gomez-USA TODAY Sports

For DraftKings we in fact do have Antonio Gates with a projection of 20.47. You already know about his matchup and let’s face it, he is getting it done right now. He is a must play on DraftKings this week! Another player to consider this week is Doug Martin. His salary is only $4,900 this week and he is coming off two weeks where he was the top RB play along with Devonta Freeman prior to his bye week, just sayin’!

***Reminder that Sleepers are salaries under $5,200
