Tuesday Dregs

Did you know LeBron James finished with 37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists, and scored game 3’s last five points over the final 40 seconds as the Cavaliers moved out to a three-games-to none series lead with a 114-111 overtime win over the Hawks on Sunday? No other player has ever reached all of those totals (37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists) in an NBA playoff game.

James earned the 12th triple-double of his playoff career, surpassing Jason Kidd’s total of 11 and moving into second place all-time, behind Magic Johnson, who had 30. James achieved the triple-double with his tenth assist with 3:49 remaining in the third quarter. No NBA player had produced a triple-double within the first three quarters of a playoff game since Chris Paul, playing for the New Orleans Hornets against the Lakers, did that in 2011. No NBA player had earned a triple-double so early in a game since 2009, when Rajon Rondo achieved it with 6:15 to play in the third quarter, playing for the Celtics against the Bulls.

James finished with 37 field-goal attempts, the most he has ever taken in any NBA game, during either the regular season or the playoffs. He missed all nine of his first-quarter field-goal attempts, becoming the first player to take that many shots in the first quarter of a playoff game and to miss them all since Tim Duncan went 0-for-10 from the field in the first quarter of Game 1 of a Western Conference Semifinal series against the Lakers in 2002. LeBron also missed his first shot in the second quarter, becoming the second player in this year’s playoffs to miss his first 10 field-goal attempts of a game. (Isaiah Thomas missed his first 10 shots from the floor in Game 4 of a first-round series against Cleveland.) Among other players who have started past playoff games with double-digit streak of misses: Duncan (twice), Carmelo Anthony (twice), Ray Allen and Tony Parker.

James Harden scored 45 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out five assists as the Rockets avoided a sweep with a 128-112 victory over the Warriors. The 45 points is the third-most ever scored by a player for a team that was down, three-games-to-none, in a playoff series, behind the 51 points scored by the Warriors’ Sleepy Floyd in 1987 against the Lakers and the 46 points scored by Miami’s Dwyane Wade against the Celtics in 2010.

Only one other player scored at least 40 points, grabbed at least nine rebounds and handed out at least five assists in a game for a team that was down, three-games-to-none, in a playoff series: Tom Chambers for the Suns against the Lakers in 1989 (41 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists).

The Warriors (20-for-46) and Rockets (17-for-32) combined for 37 three-point field goals made and 78 three-pointers attempted. The 37 three-pointers made were the most ever in an NBA playoff game, breaking the record of 33 set by the Seattle (20) and Houston (13) in Game 2 in 1996; and the 78 shots from beyond the arc were also the most ever in an NBA playoff game, breaking the mark of 70 by Oklahoma City (35) and Houston (35) in Game 2 in 2013.

The Warriors are only the second team, regular season or playoffs, to lose a game in which they made 20 three-pointers. The Nets lost to the Nuggets on Jan. 11, 2012 despite making 20 shots from beyond the arc. NBA teams that made 20 or more three-pointers are 15-1 in the regular season and now 2-1 in the playoffs.

Ben Bishop posted a 2-0 win over the Rangers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final, after giving up five goals in both Game 3 (a 6-5 overtime victory) and Game 4 (a 5-1 loss). Bishop is the only the third goaltender in NHL history to record a playoff shutout after allowing at least five goals in each of the previous two games of the same series. The other goaltenders to do that were the Quebec Nordiques’ Dan Bouchard against the Flyers in 1981 (Game 3) and the Canadiens’Carey Price versus the Bruins in 2008 (Game 7).

Toews heroics are not enough

Jonathan Toews scored a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the third period to tie the score at 4-4 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final, but the Blackhawks’ late comeback proved to be in vain as Matt Beleskey scored 45 seconds into overtime to win the game for the Ducks. It was the fifth time in NHL playoff history that a team tied a game after trailing by two goals in the last two minutes of regulation time, and Toews is the first player to score both the tying goal and the one before that. The last team before Chicago to stage a two-goal tying rally in the final two minutes of the third period was the Bruins in Game 7 of their first-round series against the Maple Leafs in 2013. Milan Lucic scored to get the Bruins within one goal, and Patrice Bergeron netted both the tying goal in regulation and the series-winner in overtime.

Never Before

Francisco Liriano struck out 12 batters and earned the win as the Pirates completed their three-game series sweep of the Mets. Gerrit Cole struck out ten batters in his series-opening win on Friday, as did A.J. Burnett in his victory on Saturday. It is the only time in modern major-league history (1900 to date) that a team’s starting pitchers won three straight games within one series while recording a double-digit strikeout total in each game.

Big Game James?

The Padres averted being swept in their three-game series at Dodger Stadium behind the pitching of James Shields, who improved his record to 6-0 this season. Shields is the only pitcher who has won as many as six games for his new club after switching major-league teams during the past offseason. Since 2010, spanning his time with the Rays, Royals and Padres, Shields is 7-0 in 11 regular-season starts in games in which his team was in danger of being swept in a series, and each of those seven wins came on the road.

Historic Failure

Jeremy Guthrie gave up four homers and allowed 11 runs while getting only three outs against the Yankees on Monday. Guthrie is the first starting pitcher in major league history to give up at least four homers and allow 11 or more runs in a game in which he recorded no more than three outs.

Still doesn’t play on Sundays

Andre Ethier‘s solo home run in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and the Dodgers went on to beat the Braves, 6-3, on Monday night. It was career home run #151 for Ethier, 14 of which have been go-ahead homers in the eighth inning or later (9.3 percent).

The only active players with more go-ahead homers than Ethier in the eighth inning or later since 2006 are Albert Pujols (17), Miguel Cabrera (16), Prince Fielder(16) and Chris Young (15). Jose BautistaJustin Morneau and David Ortiz also have 14 such homers since 2006.

Not since…

Prince Fielder went 3-for-5 with a home run in the Rangers’ win over the Indians. Fielder is now batting .365 with nine home runs in 45 games this season. The last Rangers player to have at least nine homers and a batting average of .360 or better over his first 45 games of a season was Josh Hamilton in 2012 (.368 with 20 homers).

Fielder has 11 hits and 12 runs batted in over his last four games. The only other player in Rangers franchise history with that many hits and RBIs over a four-game span is Ivan Rodriguez from July 30 to August 2, 1999. Pudge had 13 hits and 12 RBIs over that four-game span.

Miss me Milwaukee?

Giants’ leadoff batter, Nori Aoki, went 4-for-4 with a home run in their win over the Brewers. Aoki is the fourth Giants player over the last 60 years to go 4-for-4 or better with a home run from the leadoff spot in the batting order. Bobby Bonds, who did it three times (once each in 1971, 1972 and 1973), Marvin Benard (1998) and Randy Winn (twice in 2005) were the other Giants players to do it over that span.

Arenado times two

Nolan Arenado has seven hits and knocked in seven runs over his last two games. Arenado is the first major-league player this season to have that many hits and RBIs over a two-game span and he’s the first Rockies player to do it since Carlos Gonzalez had exactly seven hits and seven RBIs over two games in May 2012.  That is about how long it has been since we have seen anything from CarGo.

42 – the Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything

Today in 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color-line held by Major League Baseball.  At 28, he played his first MLB game in front of 26,000 spectators at Ebbets Field, and on that day he would fail to get a hit, but would score a run that led to the Dodgers wining, 5-3 over the Braves.  His achievement was one year before Harry Truman desegregated the military.  Jackie would became an example of non-violence and his talent helped challenge the foundations of what a man could do, not just the color of their skin.  He became the first athlete at UCLA to letter in four sports, (Baseball, Football, Basketball and Track).  Jackie would play in 6 World Series and win one in 1955.  He was the MLB Rookie of the Year in ’47 and won the NL Batting Title and NL MVP in ’49.  He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962 and owns a career batting average of .311.  But baseball was just part of the man – He became the first black television analyst in MLB, as well as the first black vice-president of a major corporation, Chock full O’Nuts.  He would help establish the Freedon National Bank in Harlem, a black owned financial institution.  Also on this day, eleven years later the first MLB game is played on the West Coast between the Dodgers and the GiantsToday is Jackie Robinson Day, and everyone wears 42!

After tonight, the real season begins in the NBA and we will know a few more things about what kind of heart these teams possess.  Everyone seems to have the will to win, it’s the will to prepare that separates champions, from the rest of the s’posed-ta’s.  With a big slate of games tonight, only two provide any drama and that is OKC and New Orleans.  Sure there is still the matter of Brooklyn and Indiana, but neither team will finish near .500 – real drama demands winning records.

The only way OKC makes the ‘offs is IF they win and the Pelicans lose – every other combination favors the Pelicans.  For my money, it’s a changing of the guard scenario I’m hoping for – sure, it might be the last time we see Durant and Westbrook play together, but it’s not like we haven’t seen what it is already with the injuries inflicted on each other.  Golden State v New Orleans seems more entertaining for my NBA dollar than does OKC.  Yes, Westbrook is a dynamo, but his one-man-band approach is tiresome and he loses as many games it seems, than he wins.

If none of that floats your boat as much as it should than consider this:  Minnesota, who currently has the leagues worst record, could easily maintain that mark by losing to OKC tonight – selling the drama.  Even more so, if you have watched the T-puppies, you would have noticed they have a nice young team and if they got the first pick – they could use it for something other than wing type players (they need a dynamic PG or Big) – making the selection either Okafor, or Towns.  Regardless of which side of the fence you fall on, about who’s number 1 – it makes the ‘Wolves a potential contender.  Marinate on that for a bit.

Irony would be the Knicks, again creating conspiracy theories, by getting the 1st pick – like they did with Ewing.  This league has migrated to wing players, and if your a Knicks fan – do you trust a man who puts as much time in evaluation, as he does a cup of coffee?

But while we are talking about the strange and ironic – I’d like to give a shout out to Brad Stevens.  Sure Steve Kerr will likely take Coach of the Year honors, but consider the job that Stevens did with the Celtics.  Besides you Jon Beckwith, could any of you name 3 guys on the Celtics?  The Celtics will make the playoffs after trading their best player and using a boat-load of Duct-Tape to keep the roster together.  They will play the Cavaliers, whom they just beat recently by 39 – not that it means anything – but how sweet would that be for Celtics fan, who also suffers having a guy named Isiah Thomas on their team…

That is the catch that Nolan Arenado made last night against the Giants in the bottom of the 8th – even better than the catch would have been the throw he made from the tarp for a double play.  There is a reason he is two years in and is also a two-time gold glove winner – it’s early, but he might have just sewed up his third with that play.  Even Baseball Tonight had to end their Web Gems with this play – the defacto #1.

However, as impressive as this catch is, the Rockies on the road have been more so.  Last year they won a paltry 21 games – they have 5 road-wins already.  Yes, it’s a long season, and they are still terrible at home (1-2), it’s a long season – and they are still in first place of the NL West all by themselves (tied for first overall with the Braves in the NL), again it’s a long season.  Most Rockies fans, use Coors Field as an occupier of time until the Broncos season starts, it’s a long season – The Giants were the only team the Rockies had a winning record against last year and it seems that they have no fear again, but it’s a long season.  We’ve seen this picture show before and we need to wait until the dog-days begin for meaningful baseball in September – but for the moment it is fun to watch and when the wheels fall off, we’ll forget all about the hope that sprung eternal in April.  Until then, BUY THE TICKET, TAKE THE RIDE!

Tuesday’s DiRTy Dimes

Last night we witnessed a Shooting Guard battle between DeRozan and Harden.  DeRozan countered Harden’s 31pts with his own 41pts and 11 rebounds, helping the Raptors scrub the Rockets, 99-96.

Avery Bradley helped the Celtics beat the Hornets scoring 30, while Kemba Walker dished 12 assists and 28pts, with 3 rebounds of his own.  Celtics won 116-104, keepong their slim lead ahead of Brooklyn, Indiana and Charlotte.

Nerlens Noel and his double-double of 19pts 14 rebounds was not enough to beat the Lakers and Jordan Clarkson’s 26pts and 11 assists.  The Lakers win another “must lose” game and might be in danger of having their plan blow up in their face.  The Lakers could lose the rest of their games by double digits and could still find themselves 7th in the NBA Lottery and losing their top 5 protected draft pick – #TankingIsHard.

Another solid night of NBA action that seemed to be more Double-Double Monday, as we push towards the final 8 games or so of the season.

The last two weeks of March showed us some interesting things as we breakdown the positions.  First, let’s scrape off the cream; no one is able to afford Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Lebron James, Anthony Davis and Boogie Cousins on the same team, so we will focus on the other guys.  Knowing also that the Guard position is your highest scoring, with the 2nd most coming from the Center position.  This leaves the Forward position the place where you separate yourself from winning some #FreshLettuce and not cashing at all.  Many lineups are won or lost with the Forwards.

Games played from 3-16 thru 3-29-15:

Point guard

If the MVP race was restricted to the kind of metrics used in Daily Fantasy, then it would look very different within those who play point guard.  In reality Steph Curry is having a terrific year, but has been a 4th option in the PG position, and with his cost, you have to look elsewhere for similar production at a better value.  Look what Elfrid Payton has produced in just 6 games at a better price point.  Reggie Jackson has been solid since leaving OKC and Shved cracks the top 10 APPG and crazy plays in March.

Shooting Guard

SGFD

FanDuel

SGDK

DraftKings

You notice in the Shooting Guards we have a bottleneck of value in the top 5 with Eric Bledsoe, Victor Oladipo and DeMar DeRozan.  When you look closer you see that Oladipo is doing a bit more with less.  Four of the top six Shooting Guards by APPG, will be seen in the Playoffs, so you should expect them to keep their averages up.  For Oladipo he’s still proving himself to take the next step, while Bledsoe continues to justify his recent $70m contract in September.

Small Forward

SFFD

FanDuel

SFDK

DraftKings

Everyone of these guys has had a blow up game this month, except I do not remember Wilson Chandler’s.  If you have paid any attention to the Utah Jazz, you are not surprised that Gordon Hayward is 4th in APPG.  You may be surprised that the Nuggets have two players on this list, (one in the PF) meaning that if Lawson is All-Star capable and the Nuggets have 3 Forwards that can score then how are they so awful, #Management.  Amazing stat if you can afford them: if you have Lebron and Kawhi on your team your lineup cashes over 40% of the time.  #ScienceIsAwesome.

Power Forward

PFFD

FanDuel

PFDK

DraftKings

In Power Forwards you have a logjam of guys within 3pts of each other, making cost per point a necessity.  The Bulls without D.Rose have two Power Forwards in the top 5, with the possible R.O.Y. in Nikola Mirotic.  Wiggins has the name recognition and will probably get rookie-of-the-year, but it should be Mirotic and his smooth stroke.  He has been the offense in Rose’s absence most games and in March has been on fire.  Anthony Davis and the Pelicans still have an outside chance to make the playoffs, but being 3 games back with 8 games left is a tall task.  You will still expect “The Brow” to do what he can and continue to be the guy you have to have each night he plays, if you can afford him.  It’s why our “Projection to Salary” report is so invaluable.

Center

Watching basketball on a nightly basis has made this a lot fun breaking down Centers.  Finding the value in Gobert before his price shot up and seeing Gorgui Dieng climb into the top 10, has made this month exciting for Centers, and made us big fans of new, young guys.  Boogie is so dominant that if you can afford him and find value in other guys – you take that chance.  But often times the top guys are not the guys that cash the big checks.  You often find the same overall value with Brook Lopez or Rudy Gobert that you can upgrade that Forward/Guard position to improve your chances.

These reports we provide on our RotoCanon Page, help you make the best decision possible.  Decisions like if you had Kemba, Clarkson, DeRozan, Bradley, Gobert and Booker on a lineup, you might have won $150, (#WeDid, #CalledIt).  Contact us with any questions or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you and your success.

Shots Up

To recap Mega Slam Wednesday, it can be said in one word, Thriller!  There were 26 teams in action last night and there was no shortage of close games, game winning attempts, blowouts, playoffs implications and injuries.  It makes you wonder why we sit here on Thursday morning and there is only one game of action tonight.  For all of you avid NBA Fantasy players you get the day off today.  I don’t know about you but I was surely disappointed to find out that Milwaukee and Indiana is the only game I will get to see tonight.  Especially considering the games that went down last night.  We started off the night with the Bulls and Raptors and the Bulls showed why they are still in the hunt in the Eastern Conference and why the Raptors are looking at another first round exit.  raptors_fallingThe Raptors have been reeling of late and given the fact that Kyle Lowry can’t seem to stay on the court over a bruised back, it doesn’t surprise me that Raptors find themselves falling hard down the stretch.  The Bulls however are starting to get healthy and with Derrick Rose seemingly ready to return to action in two weeks, they are a team to look out for moving forward.  We quickly moved to the Miami Heat game and I fully expected them to tank that game given the fact that Dwayne Wade was (resting) and Whiteside had to get ten stitches in his hand the night before.  They unpredictably came out on fire and got huge contributions from Haslem and Dragic.  While they did let the game get close they were able to pull it out and remain on top of Boston, there was a moment with about three minutes left that I thought, are they going to lose on a buzzer beater again!  The Atlanta Hawks got back on track with a victory against the Magic last night.  For all you fantasy players, this was the game to watch.  If you had Millsap, Payton and Korver, then you kicked off the night with a great start.  If you added Carroll, Harris, Teague and Vucevic then you were sitting around 275 on Fan Duel with two guys to play. George Hill hit a shot late to secure victory over the Wizards, who just like the Raptors, are looking at falling into the playoffs.  What happened to this team that started out so hot?  The only thing I can tell you is I believe it all comes down to Gortat for the Wiz.  wizards_fallingI wrote an article three weeks ago, highlighting Gortat, where I was able to determine that if he plays 30 minutes in the game then the Wiz are 19 – 3. Unfortunately, it appears that they haven’t figured this out just yet and so he continues to play around 28 minutes and they continue to lose.  Some other thrilling games were the Nets against the Hornets and I can’t believe I am saying this, the Lakers versus the Timberwolves.  Brook Lopez continued his fantasy hot streak as he lit up the Hornets for 34 points and 10 rebounds, accumulating 54+ fantasy points for only the second time all year.  The Lakers pulled out an overtime victory against Minnesota and the star of the game was Chase Budinger.  If you follow our DiRTy Plays then you would have known, he was one of our key Sleepers last night and he did not disappoint.  What I took away from these games is that if Thad Young plays, Lopez is unstoppable, if Young misses time as he got injured last night, Lopez will be an over priced center for your daily lineup.  As for the Lakers and T-Wolves, what can you say, the T-Wolves give it all they have each night.  The Lakers are quietly tanking in hopes of top 3 draft pick this summer to make one last run with Kobe.  Nothing would please me more than to see the Lakers add Kevin Love this summer, get Randle back and add a strong small forward to the mix, who can shoot threes.  You keep Lin and Clarkson as your point guards and now the Lakers might compete for the 7th or 8th seed next year.  We finished the night with Rockets holding off a late surge by the Pelicans, 95 – 93.  What was crazy about this game was the fact that the Pelicans were up 16 early in the first half, only to relinquish it in the second half.  They were down 12 when Anthony Davis jumped up and stole a full court lob.  As he came down, he tapped shoulders with Cory Brewer and went to the ground.  I immediately thought to myself, there he goes again, he can’t stay on the court and will he be another tragedy of big men who can’t stay healthy.  He did return and almost lead a come back but clearly his shoulder is going to require surgery.  I welcome the thought of an NBA player, playing through the pain, attempting to make the playoffs.  We just don’t see that these days and instead we get a bunch of guys complaining about chartered flights, back to back games and an otherwise grueling schedule #INeedRest.  Don’t get me started on that again but thank you Anthony, you put a glimmer of hope back into my mind that not everyone is as soft as these guys are today. That said, I fully expect Davis to require surgery this summer and hope that he will be back at it next season because the Pelicans are not going to make the playoffs.  The last game was the Spurs and Thunder.  A marquee matchup, highlighted by ESPN, we got what the Thunder really are, HOPELESS!  They got blown off the court and no MVP that I can remember every took a beat down like that so good-bye to this notion that Westbrook deserves to be in the MVP race.  No one put Kevin Love in the MVP race last year, while he put up 26 points and 11 rebounds per game, every night. The reason for this is simple, they didn’t WIN and neither are the Thunder.  Good thing there is only 10 games left and they have a three game lead.

It’s On The Way

Let’s have a quick breakdown of the NBA playoff picture and highlight some key games coming up over the next few days.  In the East we have a crazy race to the 8th spot. It’s going to come down to who can win games against each other down the stretch.  EasternBoston, Indiana, Charlotte and Brooklyn will probably all finish 8 or 9 games under .500 and yet they will be rewarded with a first round playoff birth against the Atlanta Hawks.  Most might think that they would get blown off the court but come playoff time a team that I think can beat the Hawks is the Indiana Pacers. It appears that Paul George is going to return here shortly and if the Pacers can squeak in, while George gets game ready, they would be a team that has the ability to compete with the Hawks.  That said only one game separates these four teams, with the Heat and Bucks, only two and four games ahead.  If one of those teams hits a cold spell or catches the injury plague then we might get two of these bottom feeders in.  It does however, appear that we are going to get three teams under .500 to make the playoffs in the East and that makes me sick!

The Western Conference is an entirely different situation.  If you watch or listen to any sports radio or talk shows on ESPN, they are constantly talking about the WesternThunder and Warriors potential matchup.  I certainly hope that last night’s beat down of the Thunder will quiet these folks.  I don’t care how well Westbrook appears to be playing.  If you actually watch his games, like I do, then you would quickly see that he loses just as many games for his team as he wins.  Yes, he is playing lights out when you look at the stat sheet and for guys like me that are constantly after fantasy value, he is your guy.  If you want to win games in the West, you cannot afford to have a turnover machine and a guy that jacks up 15 foot jumpshots with a one on four break.  That team NEEDS Durant if they are going to have any shot and that has seemingly been shot down.  Look for the Suns to make a push down the stretch and squeak in this year and leave three All-Stars watching from home.  It’s not that I don’t like the Pelicans chances but as I continue to say, Davis is hurt, he is giving it everything he can but he is not enough. Tyreke Evans is not a point guard and until the Pelicans have one that can actually take the court.  I do believe that we will have ten, yes count them, ten teams that go over .500 in the West.

Teams like the Jazz, who have been playing very well during the back half of the season are going to finish a few games under .500 for the season with a bright future.  The talks of just taking the top sixteen teams to the NBA playoffs in the future is something that I embrace.  Embrace change and think outside of the box.  It is visionary people that lead our country, fortune 500 companies and I would like to think lead our major sports.  Do we really need to watch teams that can barely beat the Nuggets on a night in a night basis for a 7 game series?  I say NO!  Make this change while at the same time rewarding the team that makes the last spot in the draft with a top 5 lottery pick.  You reward the teams that want to win and take away from the teams that seemingly want ten centers on their team, Philadelphia.  I can’t even tell any of your players apart with the exception of Noel and Covington.  Noel is your big man and Covington should be your shooting guard.  The rest should be sent to the D-League along with your management team for building a team of centers in a league full of guards.

Score It

Absolute Must Have, Notable & Sleeper – New Segment

The definition for these respective categories is all based on the salary assigned to the individual for today’s games on both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  The Absolute Must Have category is designated for players with a salary above $7,000.  The Absolute Notable is for players that have a salary between $5,300 and $6,900.  Absolute Sleeper is defined as players that have a salary at or below $5,200.  We will be identifying the best player for these respective salary ranges each day and you should take all three of these individuals as they have the best matchup and the projection combination for the day.  You will then be able to review the next section where we outline some additional players to complete your lineup and finished off with a lineup to consider for each site.

To go directly to our daily NBA breakdown DiRTy Plays, just click here.

Today, I wanted to take some time and provide you all with a breakdown of the last five games as it pertains to each position for your Daily NBA Fantasy games.  Each day I look to provide you with Absolute Must Haves, Notables and Sleepers.  Within each of these categories I will look to provide you with players that you should consider taking in each night’s games, who will out perform their projection and how injuries will impact other players performance for that night.  FD_Last5_overallIn addition to this daily insight, I am going to provide you a weekly breakdown of players by position as it pertains to both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  So let’s take a look at the Overall Performances over the last 5 games for Fan Duel.  The overall, number one, player was Anthony Davis.  He comes in slightly higher than Westbrook but it should be noted that Davis did not play in all 5 games as such his average is based on last 3 games.  The notable players that I want to highlight for you are Brook Lopez and Eric Bledsoe.  Both of these players have been playing great, Bledsoe, primarily due to Knight being out.  Look for that production to decline slightly.  As for Lopez, I do not expect a decline in production.  Since acquiring Thad Young it has had a major impact in terms of where Lopez is able to play on the court.  DK_last5_OverallHe has been able to plug the middle and post-up down low, where he is highly productive. Moving onto DraftKingsthere really isn’t much change in the information. A slight modification in the ranking of the players but the same 10 exist.  If #KingJames will play the full game, he will go over 50+ fantasy points each night.  The problem is that the Cavs are playing mostly Eastern Conference teams down the stretch and they simply dominate these folks.  That means that for your spend James isn’t logging enough minutes to continue to pay those high salary prices.  Look for our Notables to compliment your lineup in these considerations.  It should be noted that I am in the process of defining a salary limit per player.  This key performance metric will identify the maximum spend per player. This will allow for you to quickly identify players that are too expensive regardless of output.  The simple example here is Westbrook.  He currently costs over $13,000 on both gaming sites.  That means that he is approximately 22% of your spend.  We know that in order to cash you must hit 330 on Fan Duel and 300 on DraftKings.  That means that in order for Westbrook to be of value for that spend he would need to produce a 72.6 on Fan Duel and a 66 on DraftKings.  Those are high numbers to get to and while he certainly has the capability of that, this means you have to find two or three other players that are going to fall in our Notable or Sleeper segments in order to fill your lineup.  Why not take another Must Have that is only 15% of your spend and now you can get two high-end Notables.

Point Guard Breakdown

FD_last5_pg

Clearly, Westbrook, leads this category but I just wanted to point out to you that Chris Paul has been averaging almost 50+ fantasy points.  Two other folks that have been creeping up the list here are Elfrid Payton and Reggie Jackson.  Both of these guys have been teetering on the triple-double mayhem and if Westbrook wasn’t averaging that over his last 10 games, these guys would be highlighted on ESPN more often.  DK_last5_pgAnother guy to consider would be Goran Dragic.  He has been averaging 36.1 fantasy points per game and with the Heat battling for position into the playoffs, look for that to continue.  A disappointing player, Steph Curry, has not played well.  He tops our list of over priced players and should not be considered on daily lineups until his salary declines below $9,000.  Another young player in Kyrie Irving, is right there with Curry for most over priced player at this position.  Sure they might each go off and put up 50 for you but more often than not they will put around 30 fantasy points and you could have had more production from guys like Jeremy Lin and George Hill. Don’t take the risk on these guys until further notice.

Shooting Guard Breakdown

James Harden certainly leads this list and should be considered the best SG in the game right now. He will most likely win the MVP, unless folks turn to Curry.  I say without Howard, the Rockets haven’t skipped a beat and that is why he is my MVP right now.  JJ Redick, Randy Foye and Avery Bradley come in at the bottom of this top 10 list but are players you should consider each night simply due to the fact that they don’t cost too much.  DK_last5_sgIf you can fill your lineup with guys that all fall in our Notable segment, you will have the most consistency in terms of production.  If two or three of these guys go off and put up 50+ to compliment the 30+ you will get from everyone else, this is how you cash every day in daily NBA fantasy games.  So many players try to shoot the moon and go for first place.  That would be great if it happened but the math says to put your money on consistency and you will prosper.  Some fun facts to consider when playing NBA fantasy.  You only need to cash in 33 out of 100 games when playing a $3 entry in order to break even.  If you win 40 games out of 100, you will profit $60. FD_last5_sgWith our insight and daily breakdown this should be of no concern.  In fact most of our subscribers are cashing over 70% of the time.  We play the games too and provide you with a weekly update of our progress. D-Wade has been very productive of late and even earned the Eastern Conference Player of the Week last week. Unfortunately, this will turn him into an over priced player based on the salary algorithms of both Fan Duel and DraftKings very soon.  If he hoovers around $8,000 then you are safe.  Anything above that and you should consider guys like Danny Green or DeMar DeRozan.

Small Forward Breakdown

Yes, of course, #KingJames is going to top this list but did you know that Gallinari has actually been one of the most consistent players since Marvin Hunt took over for Brian Shaw.  He was moved into the starting lineup at that time and since then the Nuggets look like the team we expected to have in Denver from the beginning of the season.  FD_Last5_sfGuess all it took was putting a guy in place that listened to his players and encourages a style of play conducive to the talent of the team.  Shaw, I really have nothing against you but I must say, you need to learn how to communicate with guys in their 20’s or you won’t have a head coaching job in the NBA.  It doesn’t matter who you played with or who you coached under, what matters is winning.  Look at D’Antony, he is probably going to be the guy here in Denver and why is that?  It is because he likes to play up and down and doesn’t care about defense. DK_last5_sfYes, I know that this will never win a championship but that isn’t what Denver is all about anyway. So next time you get the job, listen to the local media and your team, you will last a bit longer.  The only other notable player to consider from this list is Kawhi Leonard.  In fact, if you were to play him and James on nights where they are both playing, those lineups will cash 42.6% of the time. That is note worthy considering I already told you that at 40% you are profitable by a fairly high margin. Add some other key guys from other positions and now you have a shot at finishing high. The Spurs need to keep winning games in the West so they are going to have to play their key guys.  This means Leonard.

Power Forward Breakdown

I already told you that Anthony Davis has been the most productive fantasy player of late and so it is no surprise he tops this list.  Look at second place, Aldridge, almost 19 points less per game.  DK_last5_pfThat is also the largest gap across all positions.  This position also happens to be the most productive on both DraftKings and Fan Duel.  My suggestion is to spend your money on the big guys and find the Sleepers and Notables for your SG and PG positions.  They are much easier to locate and have a much higher rate of out performing their projection. There are three notable players on this list that for now are still not cap casualties and should be considered each night.  They are Kenneth Faried, Marcus Morris and Nikola Mirotic.  Let’s face facts, the closer in Chicago is Mirotic.  Did you know that he leads the NBA in points scored in the 4th quarter over the last 10 games.  Neither did I until I researched it last night.  Pretty amazing considering some of the MVP caliber performances of late.  That just means on your daily NBA fantasy lineup, don’t sweat it if he only has 15 points going into the second half or even the 4th quarter because here comes the boom.  FD_last5_pfHe will get close to 40 fantasy points per night.  Faried and Marcus Morris have seen significant increases in time on the floor and as we already pointed out the Nuggets are just moving around a lot more.  This means high rebound and high point production for Faried. He cannot play on a half-court offensive team but the run and gun he loves.  As for Morris and yes, I said Marcus NOT Markief, has been lights out.  He has put up at least 30 fantasy points in each of his last 7 games and since moving to the starting SF position he has been their best player. Unfortunately, Knight is expected back soon and so it is uncertain what this will mean to his playing time and role with the team.

Center Breakdown

Our last but certainly not least category for the day is our Center position.  This is the second highest producing position of your Fan Duel lineup.  FD_Last5_CentersThe guard position is that for DraftKings.  That all comes down to the fact that turnovers are not as heavily weighted and you earn extra points for making threes.  If you can find the big guy who busts threes and rebounds well, he is your marquee guy.  Brook Lopez has been a guy who is climbing the ladder and quickly.  This means take him while you can because just like Gobert, who only 3 weeks ago, cost under $5,500 has now increased to $8,000 per night, so too will Lopez.  Keep in mind that you don’t want to go too cheap here and so other notable players on this list are Enes Kanter and Jo Noah. If you follow us at all, we have been on the Gobert train for quite some time now and he looks great if you watch any of his games.  DK_last5_CentersHe is the flying frenchman that makes the Jazz very difficult to score against and thus the reason they are leading the NBA in defensive points allowed since the All-Star break. That said, Kanter was traded to OKC at the deadline and has been averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. This marks one of the only trades I have followed where both teams have made out like bandits.  It was great for both players to get out from underneath one another and get into styles of play that allow for them to shine.  Enjoy the show for the last couple of weeks as both of these guys will most likely be sitting at home watching the playoffs this year.  That just means look out next year!
