No Larry, it’s now 3x’s

Good coach? Sure.  Only guy to win a NCAA and NBA Title – says so right here on the label.  Yet, it seems to also come with a warning – may be hazardous to your postseason.  He is the king of implosion.  Just ask UCLA and Kansas.  UCLA’s 1980 Final Four was vacated because of the use of ineligible players – at Kansas it was recruiting violations – and now SMU.  Word is the 76ers are also banned from the postseason because of the association with Larry Brown.

Is Larry the only guy? No.  While I am sure he is being taken to task for his latest indescretion, he is not the only one.  Let’s not forget Calipari also has left programs on the sanctions-alter, and UNC seems to have a different scandal every recruiting class.  It appeared to me to be inevitable.  SMU has a history and SMU president R. Gerald Turner pushed hard to hire Larry Brown to make basketball relevant, where they have not before – Irony is Mr.Turner being the co-chair of the Knight Commission on Athletic Reform.

In other words, same ol’story for SMU, Larry Brown and college athletics – maybe we should stop pretending that collegiate sports are not big-business.

For the last #StrikeZone Tuesday of the season, here is the #DraftKings PERFECT LINEUP:

Going from winless to winning is a thing.  It can happen.  Let me take you back to a time when Lifehouse was “Hanging by a Moment” – Harry Potter was looking for his Sorcerer’s Stone – and the professional football club from our Nation’s Capital was becoming the butt of late-nite jokes.  It was Schottenheimer’s only year in Washington and they had started 0-5 – then they beat the Panthers and rolled off 5 straight, before finishing the season 8-8.

That is mediocre, but let’s also remember the NFC West a few years ago and the NFC South last year – 8-8 could get you into the playoffs.  So, here’s to you – Lions, Ravens and Saints, because we have also seen teams get off to fast starts and blow it down the stretch – so keep your head up and gosh-darn-it you guys aren’t the 49ers, go out and win one!

This is the new Red-Menace and should also be the number 1 team in the country.  Crazy, maybe, but remember that is just a term of Art – Did you watch what Michigan did to BYU Saturday?  These same Utes beat those guys and also did something I have not seen in a long, long, long, time in Eugene – hammering Oregon 62-20!  62! In Oregon!  Show me another team in the country that has two wins that look that good.  I’ll accept the season is early, as long as you accept that pre-season polls are stupid.  The rest of my, would be top 4, if the season ended today for the playoffs are in order: UCLA, OleMiss and Notre dame.

Speaking of Michigan – We all believed that Harbaugh might have a little Miracle-Max in him.  He turned Stanford around.  He made the 49ers contenders.  We just all gave him a pass this year, because the Wolverines were not supposed to be any good, etc…It might be time to stop assuming Michigan will lose to Michigan State and Ohio State. These Wolverines are much, much better than last year’s group. The Wolverines still need to prove they can play at this level consistently – but if they keep improving, they could make things very interesting in the Big Ten East.

You have to admire Charlie Strong and what he is doing at Texas.  You see, Texas has been close to a breakthrough since making redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard the quarterback and Jay Norvell the primary play-caller, but another special teams gaffe cost the Longhorns on Saturday. Against Cal on Sept. 19, a missed extra point that would have forced overtime, resulted in a 45–44 loss. Against Oklahoma State, a dropped punt snap allowed the Cowboys to kick a game-winning field goal and escape Austin with a 30–27 victory.

Longhorns fans can complain about the officials—and yes, we all appreciate the irony of Texas fans complaining about the Longhorns not getting calls—but if they can clean up their special teams, it may not matter which calls Texas gets or doesn’t. At some point, Texas has to break through with a win—doing that this week against TCU would obviously be huge, but will be terribly difficult—but the Longhorns are on the correct path.

We can count all the instances of happenstance
and bad luck and rule that a coach and team ultimately had as good a chance of winning as they did of losing. But eventually we must draw the line somewhere. We have chosen as a society to draw that line at the final score. Bill Parcells certainly understood all of the factors that decide the outcome of a football game, and he still spoke the words that ring true in football and in life. “You are,” Parcells famously said, “what your record says you are.”

tnsad2For Tennessee fan – the answer lies in something Jones said a few minutes after the question about the two-point conversion chart. (Jones said the Volunteers have a standard chart, but if they do use the one made famous by Dick Vermeil, they ignored it at Florida.) Jones was trying to explain how his team would bounce back from the loss when he said this: “It doesn’t define who we are.”

Yeah it does, unfortunately.

Football final scores are the results of thousands of small decisions and the outcomes of those decisions. Sometimes those decisions are out of a coach’s control, and sometimes teams are plain unlucky. Jones didn’t send a 12th player out with the field goal unit Saturday. Somebody just got excited and ran onto the field at the wrong time. If that doesn’t happen, Medley kicks a 50-yarder. Maybe he makes it, and the honeymoon for Jones continues in Knoxville. Jones probably couldn’t have known that two timeouts called before fourth downs Saturday to get the desired personnel on the field would cause Florida counterpart Jim McElwain to rethink kicking and put his offense back in. Both decisions led to Florida first downs, and the second—late in the third quarter—led to a Florida touchdown.  It must be painful for Vols fans to always be looking to next year for their breakout game – to make a statement – maybe they will find a smarter coach…

In honor of all sad fans across the country – may these pictures say a 1,000 words of sadness:

Wednesday Dregs

It’s time to Kick out the Jams…truth is beauty and beauty is truth…it shall set you free

The Toronto Raptors lost more than a basketball game last night.  They lost their soul and their future, along with any chance in the Eastern Conference playoffs and much of their already wavering self-esteem.  Anybody who can’t beat the Washington Wizards in a money game at the end of the season is a silly bet to go anywhere in the brutal NBA playoffs.  They are either playing possum or coming apart at the seams, like the Mavericks.  Take your pick.

I may have missed the memo somewhere, but anyone see this kid LeBron play?  He seems pretty good.  Last night he had 30 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks, helped some old lady cross the street during halftime, wrote a rough outline for a framework of a possible nuclear deal with Iran after the game, and finds himself up 2-0 on the Celtics.  The Celtics could probably beat 5 other teams in the East – but that’s none of my business.  It’s funny how the season plays out – in the beginning, people were freaking out about how terrible Cleveland was – they lost to the Knicks on Opening Night – the Knicks.  It wasn’t until they made some deals, some with the devil and some with other teams, only to find themselves in the position they find themselves in now – Best in the East.  Sure Atlanta might have something to say about that down the road, but Atlanta plays similar to Toronto when it comes to money-games – think if Peyton Manning played point guard for your local five – way more heartbreak than rings.

I’d say the time has come for James Harden to finally get a chance to shine for more than one series and possibly run the table.  I say that with the same certainty that I feel when I tell you that the Rockies will avoid being swept at home by the Padres, and that Tulo will be in purple the life of his contract.  Take my word for it.  I know things.

With the Stanley Cup Playoffs, NBA Playoffs and Tuesday-night StrikeZone action being watched yesterday, was their some NFL news?  I ask because, twitter was abuzz with NFL players talking smack about some kind of schedule – I assume it wasn’t the new drug schedule – see for yourself – beware, there are some grammatical errors:

That is first round pick from Purdue Kevin Plawecki, who made his MLB debut, with two hits last night.  Word is Travis D’Arnaud is feeling a lot better and is ahead of schedule.  But what about these Mets?  They are now 11-3 and have won 9 straight, with David Wright having normal body tweaks.  Niese pitched 7 shutout innings last night against the Braves and he is only the 4th starter.  Think about it.  The Amazin’s, have Jacob DeGrom, Matt Harvey and Bartolo Colon, who are 8-1 with WHIP’s of 1.14, 1.00 and .80.  Offensive health might still be the issue for them, but if….

Last night around the diamond, was an explosion of HR’s – there were 23 in the first 2 hours.  Hell, there was 2 Grand-Slams in back-to-back innings by the Reds in Milwaukee, and Encarnacion’s second home run went so far that it hit a car in the parking lot after reaching the 5th deck in Toronto.  According to my sources, those are the facts!  With all the mayhem on the basepaths, including the Rockies blowing another lead at home, there was some beef and no one wanted a pork-chop.  Prior to Bautista’s 7th inning HR, Orioles pitcher Garcia threw behind him – way behind him – that of course did not sit well with Bautista who jacked one, admired it, did a bat-flip and slow trotted around the bases, letting every Oriole know.  So in between innings Adam Jones and Jose Bautista kept the conversation going.  The Blue Jays went on to win the game 13-6, both teams are 7-7 and being in the same division, sure makes tonight’s game more interesting – of course you still might wanna take stack some guys for your DraftKings lineup – as long as there is not a brawl – because someone is taking one in the ribs.

A lot of stories early on in this young baseball season, with an added sous saint of bad-blood spilling over.

So Bryan Price fails to pull out his thesaurus during an interview and everyone loses their minds.  All day anyone could talk about was Bryan Price’s use of naughty language.  When does the faux-outrage end?  24/7 you can watch murder, abuse, violence, even sexual situations, non-stop in the news cycle all over our bandwidth.  But mention any of the “7 words you cant say on TV” and you are in a sheep load of trouble, facing a prison sentence for being unpatriotic.  Don’t believe me?  The Today show opened their program one morning with the murder of a black man by a South Carolina police officer – Just what you want – you and your kids getting ready for school – eating your fruity-pebbles and the Today show, shows a man being murdered, on TV, by a police officer.  No sanctions, no fines – but if Matt Lauer started off your day with a “motherfucker”, he’d be off the air for 6 months and might never find employment again.  South Park poked fun at the establishment when they made an entire movie, making fun of the MPAA for being hypocrites when it comes to movie-ratings over violence and language – but say the F*word to often and your movie could be banned – they actually have a guide with how many F*words can be said for a PG-13 movie – it’s twice, unless it is deemed justifiable by the context or manner in which they are used, and approved by a 2/3 majority.

Other media outlets (CNN) showed the video on a loop, while other pundits blathered on about the problems in this country – but when it comes to reading quotes from people – it’s bleeped out – or words are replaced with “fudge” and giggles.  The point is, how is a manager’s juvenile rant about how clueless he is, in relation to what his job is and why that information is relevant, was an all day event.  Who’s the guy in the media who felt it was appropriate to shame the guy, when it was just a few of them together, doing their usual sport-talk-thing, that managers have to do – is that reporting?

Has journalism subsided to shock and awe entertainment?  Remember the journalistic titans Hard Copy, The National Enquirer, Jerry Springer?  Remember when the Media was above that?  It seems they have become what they used to despise – and it seems to many people want their information salaciously sprinkled with items that pacify them from the real problems, in short  140 character bursts.  Yellow journalism has always been around us, but does anyone care anymore if Upton Sinclair has something to say about the problems with our food?  Just because it gets clicks, does not make it news.  Just because you can, does not mean you should – Jameis.  Leave the snark and snippets of informational musings to the professional muck-rakers – In God We Trust on the dollar bill, congratulations sucker, good kill.  Of course that’s my opinion, I could be wrong, M’Kay.

Shots Up

To recap Mega Slam Wednesday, it can be said in one word, Thriller!  There were 26 teams in action last night and there was no shortage of close games, game winning attempts, blowouts, playoffs implications and injuries.  It makes you wonder why we sit here on Thursday morning and there is only one game of action tonight.  For all of you avid NBA Fantasy players you get the day off today.  I don’t know about you but I was surely disappointed to find out that Milwaukee and Indiana is the only game I will get to see tonight.  Especially considering the games that went down last night.  We started off the night with the Bulls and Raptors and the Bulls showed why they are still in the hunt in the Eastern Conference and why the Raptors are looking at another first round exit.  raptors_fallingThe Raptors have been reeling of late and given the fact that Kyle Lowry can’t seem to stay on the court over a bruised back, it doesn’t surprise me that Raptors find themselves falling hard down the stretch.  The Bulls however are starting to get healthy and with Derrick Rose seemingly ready to return to action in two weeks, they are a team to look out for moving forward.  We quickly moved to the Miami Heat game and I fully expected them to tank that game given the fact that Dwayne Wade was (resting) and Whiteside had to get ten stitches in his hand the night before.  They unpredictably came out on fire and got huge contributions from Haslem and Dragic.  While they did let the game get close they were able to pull it out and remain on top of Boston, there was a moment with about three minutes left that I thought, are they going to lose on a buzzer beater again!  The Atlanta Hawks got back on track with a victory against the Magic last night.  For all you fantasy players, this was the game to watch.  If you had Millsap, Payton and Korver, then you kicked off the night with a great start.  If you added Carroll, Harris, Teague and Vucevic then you were sitting around 275 on Fan Duel with two guys to play. George Hill hit a shot late to secure victory over the Wizards, who just like the Raptors, are looking at falling into the playoffs.  What happened to this team that started out so hot?  The only thing I can tell you is I believe it all comes down to Gortat for the Wiz.  wizards_fallingI wrote an article three weeks ago, highlighting Gortat, where I was able to determine that if he plays 30 minutes in the game then the Wiz are 19 – 3. Unfortunately, it appears that they haven’t figured this out just yet and so he continues to play around 28 minutes and they continue to lose.  Some other thrilling games were the Nets against the Hornets and I can’t believe I am saying this, the Lakers versus the Timberwolves.  Brook Lopez continued his fantasy hot streak as he lit up the Hornets for 34 points and 10 rebounds, accumulating 54+ fantasy points for only the second time all year.  The Lakers pulled out an overtime victory against Minnesota and the star of the game was Chase Budinger.  If you follow our DiRTy Plays then you would have known, he was one of our key Sleepers last night and he did not disappoint.  What I took away from these games is that if Thad Young plays, Lopez is unstoppable, if Young misses time as he got injured last night, Lopez will be an over priced center for your daily lineup.  As for the Lakers and T-Wolves, what can you say, the T-Wolves give it all they have each night.  The Lakers are quietly tanking in hopes of top 3 draft pick this summer to make one last run with Kobe.  Nothing would please me more than to see the Lakers add Kevin Love this summer, get Randle back and add a strong small forward to the mix, who can shoot threes.  You keep Lin and Clarkson as your point guards and now the Lakers might compete for the 7th or 8th seed next year.  We finished the night with Rockets holding off a late surge by the Pelicans, 95 – 93.  What was crazy about this game was the fact that the Pelicans were up 16 early in the first half, only to relinquish it in the second half.  They were down 12 when Anthony Davis jumped up and stole a full court lob.  As he came down, he tapped shoulders with Cory Brewer and went to the ground.  I immediately thought to myself, there he goes again, he can’t stay on the court and will he be another tragedy of big men who can’t stay healthy.  He did return and almost lead a come back but clearly his shoulder is going to require surgery.  I welcome the thought of an NBA player, playing through the pain, attempting to make the playoffs.  We just don’t see that these days and instead we get a bunch of guys complaining about chartered flights, back to back games and an otherwise grueling schedule #INeedRest.  Don’t get me started on that again but thank you Anthony, you put a glimmer of hope back into my mind that not everyone is as soft as these guys are today. That said, I fully expect Davis to require surgery this summer and hope that he will be back at it next season because the Pelicans are not going to make the playoffs.  The last game was the Spurs and Thunder.  A marquee matchup, highlighted by ESPN, we got what the Thunder really are, HOPELESS!  They got blown off the court and no MVP that I can remember every took a beat down like that so good-bye to this notion that Westbrook deserves to be in the MVP race.  No one put Kevin Love in the MVP race last year, while he put up 26 points and 11 rebounds per game, every night. The reason for this is simple, they didn’t WIN and neither are the Thunder.  Good thing there is only 10 games left and they have a three game lead.

It’s On The Way

Let’s have a quick breakdown of the NBA playoff picture and highlight some key games coming up over the next few days.  In the East we have a crazy race to the 8th spot. It’s going to come down to who can win games against each other down the stretch.  EasternBoston, Indiana, Charlotte and Brooklyn will probably all finish 8 or 9 games under .500 and yet they will be rewarded with a first round playoff birth against the Atlanta Hawks.  Most might think that they would get blown off the court but come playoff time a team that I think can beat the Hawks is the Indiana Pacers. It appears that Paul George is going to return here shortly and if the Pacers can squeak in, while George gets game ready, they would be a team that has the ability to compete with the Hawks.  That said only one game separates these four teams, with the Heat and Bucks, only two and four games ahead.  If one of those teams hits a cold spell or catches the injury plague then we might get two of these bottom feeders in.  It does however, appear that we are going to get three teams under .500 to make the playoffs in the East and that makes me sick!

The Western Conference is an entirely different situation.  If you watch or listen to any sports radio or talk shows on ESPN, they are constantly talking about the WesternThunder and Warriors potential matchup.  I certainly hope that last night’s beat down of the Thunder will quiet these folks.  I don’t care how well Westbrook appears to be playing.  If you actually watch his games, like I do, then you would quickly see that he loses just as many games for his team as he wins.  Yes, he is playing lights out when you look at the stat sheet and for guys like me that are constantly after fantasy value, he is your guy.  If you want to win games in the West, you cannot afford to have a turnover machine and a guy that jacks up 15 foot jumpshots with a one on four break.  That team NEEDS Durant if they are going to have any shot and that has seemingly been shot down.  Look for the Suns to make a push down the stretch and squeak in this year and leave three All-Stars watching from home.  It’s not that I don’t like the Pelicans chances but as I continue to say, Davis is hurt, he is giving it everything he can but he is not enough. Tyreke Evans is not a point guard and until the Pelicans have one that can actually take the court.  I do believe that we will have ten, yes count them, ten teams that go over .500 in the West.

Teams like the Jazz, who have been playing very well during the back half of the season are going to finish a few games under .500 for the season with a bright future.  The talks of just taking the top sixteen teams to the NBA playoffs in the future is something that I embrace.  Embrace change and think outside of the box.  It is visionary people that lead our country, fortune 500 companies and I would like to think lead our major sports.  Do we really need to watch teams that can barely beat the Nuggets on a night in a night basis for a 7 game series?  I say NO!  Make this change while at the same time rewarding the team that makes the last spot in the draft with a top 5 lottery pick.  You reward the teams that want to win and take away from the teams that seemingly want ten centers on their team, Philadelphia.  I can’t even tell any of your players apart with the exception of Noel and Covington.  Noel is your big man and Covington should be your shooting guard.  The rest should be sent to the D-League along with your management team for building a team of centers in a league full of guards.

Score It

DiRTy DiMEs Tuesday

March 24th, 2015

To go directly to our daily NBA breakdown DiRTy Plays, just click here.

Today, I wanted to take some time and provide you all with a breakdown of the last five games as it pertains to each position for your Daily NBA Fantasy games.  Each day I look to provide you with Absolute Must Haves, Notables and Sleepers.  Within each of these categories I will look to provide you with players that you should consider taking in each night’s games, who will out perform their projection and how injuries will impact other players performance for that night.  FD_Last5_overallIn addition to this daily insight, I am going to provide you a weekly breakdown of players by position as it pertains to both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  So let’s take a look at the Overall Performances over the last 5 games for Fan Duel.  The overall, number one, player was Anthony Davis.  He comes in slightly higher than Westbrook but it should be noted that Davis did not play in all 5 games as such his average is based on last 3 games.  The notable players that I want to highlight for you are Brook Lopez and Eric Bledsoe.  Both of these players have been playing great, Bledsoe, primarily due to Knight being out.  Look for that production to decline slightly.  As for Lopez, I do not expect a decline in production.  Since acquiring Thad Young it has had a major impact in terms of where Lopez is able to play on the court.  DK_last5_OverallHe has been able to plug the middle and post-up down low, where he is highly productive. Moving onto DraftKingsthere really isn’t much change in the information. A slight modification in the ranking of the players but the same 10 exist.  If #KingJames will play the full game, he will go over 50+ fantasy points each night.  The problem is that the Cavs are playing mostly Eastern Conference teams down the stretch and they simply dominate these folks.  That means that for your spend James isn’t logging enough minutes to continue to pay those high salary prices.  Look for our Notables to compliment your lineup in these considerations.  It should be noted that I am in the process of defining a salary limit per player.  This key performance metric will identify the maximum spend per player. This will allow for you to quickly identify players that are too expensive regardless of output.  The simple example here is Westbrook.  He currently costs over $13,000 on both gaming sites.  That means that he is approximately 22% of your spend.  We know that in order to cash you must hit 330 on Fan Duel and 300 on DraftKings.  That means that in order for Westbrook to be of value for that spend he would need to produce a 72.6 on Fan Duel and a 66 on DraftKings.  Those are high numbers to get to and while he certainly has the capability of that, this means you have to find two or three other players that are going to fall in our Notable or Sleeper segments in order to fill your lineup.  Why not take another Must Have that is only 15% of your spend and now you can get two high-end Notables.

Point Guard Breakdown

FD_last5_pg

Clearly, Westbrook, leads this category but I just wanted to point out to you that Chris Paul has been averaging almost 50+ fantasy points.  Two other folks that have been creeping up the list here are Elfrid Payton and Reggie Jackson.  Both of these guys have been teetering on the triple-double mayhem and if Westbrook wasn’t averaging that over his last 10 games, these guys would be highlighted on ESPN more often.  DK_last5_pgAnother guy to consider would be Goran Dragic.  He has been averaging 36.1 fantasy points per game and with the Heat battling for position into the playoffs, look for that to continue.  A disappointing player, Steph Curry, has not played well.  He tops our list of over priced players and should not be considered on daily lineups until his salary declines below $9,000.  Another young player in Kyrie Irving, is right there with Curry for most over priced player at this position.  Sure they might each go off and put up 50 for you but more often than not they will put around 30 fantasy points and you could have had more production from guys like Jeremy Lin and George Hill. Don’t take the risk on these guys until further notice.

Shooting Guard Breakdown

James Harden certainly leads this list and should be considered the best SG in the game right now. He will most likely win the MVP, unless folks turn to Curry.  I say without Howard, the Rockets haven’t skipped a beat and that is why he is my MVP right now.  JJ Redick, Randy Foye and Avery Bradley come in at the bottom of this top 10 list but are players you should consider each night simply due to the fact that they don’t cost too much.  DK_last5_sgIf you can fill your lineup with guys that all fall in our Notable segment, you will have the most consistency in terms of production.  If two or three of these guys go off and put up 50+ to compliment the 30+ you will get from everyone else, this is how you cash every day in daily NBA fantasy games.  So many players try to shoot the moon and go for first place.  That would be great if it happened but the math says to put your money on consistency and you will prosper.  Some fun facts to consider when playing NBA fantasy.  You only need to cash in 33 out of 100 games when playing a $3 entry in order to break even.  If you win 40 games out of 100, you will profit $60. FD_last5_sgWith our insight and daily breakdown this should be of no concern.  In fact most of our subscribers are cashing over 70% of the time.  We play the games too and provide you with a weekly update of our progress. D-Wade has been very productive of late and even earned the Eastern Conference Player of the Week last week. Unfortunately, this will turn him into an over priced player based on the salary algorithms of both Fan Duel and DraftKings very soon.  If he hoovers around $8,000 then you are safe.  Anything above that and you should consider guys like Danny Green or DeMar DeRozan.

Small Forward Breakdown

Yes, of course, #KingJames is going to top this list but did you know that Gallinari has actually been one of the most consistent players since Marvin Hunt took over for Brian Shaw.  He was moved into the starting lineup at that time and since then the Nuggets look like the team we expected to have in Denver from the beginning of the season.  FD_Last5_sfGuess all it took was putting a guy in place that listened to his players and encourages a style of play conducive to the talent of the team.  Shaw, I really have nothing against you but I must say, you need to learn how to communicate with guys in their 20’s or you won’t have a head coaching job in the NBA.  It doesn’t matter who you played with or who you coached under, what matters is winning.  Look at D’Antony, he is probably going to be the guy here in Denver and why is that?  It is because he likes to play up and down and doesn’t care about defense. DK_last5_sfYes, I know that this will never win a championship but that isn’t what Denver is all about anyway. So next time you get the job, listen to the local media and your team, you will last a bit longer.  The only other notable player to consider from this list is Kawhi Leonard.  In fact, if you were to play him and James on nights where they are both playing, those lineups will cash 42.6% of the time. That is note worthy considering I already told you that at 40% you are profitable by a fairly high margin. Add some other key guys from other positions and now you have a shot at finishing high. The Spurs need to keep winning games in the West so they are going to have to play their key guys.  This means Leonard.

Power Forward Breakdown

I already told you that Anthony Davis has been the most productive fantasy player of late and so it is no surprise he tops this list.  Look at second place, Aldridge, almost 19 points less per game.  DK_last5_pfThat is also the largest gap across all positions.  This position also happens to be the most productive on both DraftKings and Fan Duel.  My suggestion is to spend your money on the big guys and find the Sleepers and Notables for your SG and PG positions.  They are much easier to locate and have a much higher rate of out performing their projection. There are three notable players on this list that for now are still not cap casualties and should be considered each night.  They are Kenneth Faried, Marcus Morris and Nikola Mirotic.  Let’s face facts, the closer in Chicago is Mirotic.  Did you know that he leads the NBA in points scored in the 4th quarter over the last 10 games.  Neither did I until I researched it last night.  Pretty amazing considering some of the MVP caliber performances of late.  That just means on your daily NBA fantasy lineup, don’t sweat it if he only has 15 points going into the second half or even the 4th quarter because here comes the boom.  FD_last5_pfHe will get close to 40 fantasy points per night.  Faried and Marcus Morris have seen significant increases in time on the floor and as we already pointed out the Nuggets are just moving around a lot more.  This means high rebound and high point production for Faried. He cannot play on a half-court offensive team but the run and gun he loves.  As for Morris and yes, I said Marcus NOT Markief, has been lights out.  He has put up at least 30 fantasy points in each of his last 7 games and since moving to the starting SF position he has been their best player. Unfortunately, Knight is expected back soon and so it is uncertain what this will mean to his playing time and role with the team.

Center Breakdown

Our last but certainly not least category for the day is our Center position.  This is the second highest producing position of your Fan Duel lineup.  FD_Last5_CentersThe guard position is that for DraftKings.  That all comes down to the fact that turnovers are not as heavily weighted and you earn extra points for making threes.  If you can find the big guy who busts threes and rebounds well, he is your marquee guy.  Brook Lopez has been a guy who is climbing the ladder and quickly.  This means take him while you can because just like Gobert, who only 3 weeks ago, cost under $5,500 has now increased to $8,000 per night, so too will Lopez.  Keep in mind that you don’t want to go too cheap here and so other notable players on this list are Enes Kanter and Jo Noah. If you follow us at all, we have been on the Gobert train for quite some time now and he looks great if you watch any of his games.  DK_last5_CentersHe is the flying frenchman that makes the Jazz very difficult to score against and thus the reason they are leading the NBA in defensive points allowed since the All-Star break. That said, Kanter was traded to OKC at the deadline and has been averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. This marks one of the only trades I have followed where both teams have made out like bandits.  It was great for both players to get out from underneath one another and get into styles of play that allow for them to shine.  Enjoy the show for the last couple of weeks as both of these guys will most likely be sitting at home watching the playoffs this year.  That just means look out next year!

Shots Up

Usually I would start out my weekly post by providing you with a recap of the fabulous Wednesday night of NBA basketball but I figured I would change it up this week and talk about RESTING players. Has the NBA really come to this already?  When I was growing up, I hated being taken out of the game for even a couple of minutes.  During the length of a season as a teenager, I would have games for the high school starting in November, the season would run through the end of February, mainly because we were a top 5 team in the state and we would play around 30 games.  Then you get to AAU.  At that time, I would end up playing a 50 game season from March until July and that didn’t count the weekend tournaments.  Back to back’s have nothing on that grueling schedule because our back to backs were in the same day.  Then you drive to the next city and you are playing another 2 games the following day.  NBA players get to ride on in luxury cars, chartered air planes, stay in the nicest hotels and eat whatever the team nutritionist prepares for them.  They have everything handed to them on a silver platter and now I’m stuck, as a fan, having to watch a bunch of D-League players compete against NBA Stars?  This is a travesty to which I cannot begin to believe.  Michael Jordan never sat out a game unless he was injured.  Everyone remembers when he played in the NBA Finals with the flu and all he did was put up an MVP performance and win the game.  Now I review the injury list and provide those details for your daily NBA fantasy gaming knowledge; seemingly I end up finding at least one guy, every night, that has an “illness” and he is doubtful.

klay_restingI couldn’t agree more with Klay Thompson’s father, who went off in an interview about the Warriors sitting his son down against the Nuggets last week.  He was upset and mortified that a guy in his 20’s couldn’t play 4 games in 5 nights.  It’s a grueling season they say, I say we are dealing with executives who only care about one thing….Assets.  If their asset provides any inclination that he might leave the team because let’s face it, the executives of the NBA have no control over players, then they put a system together to rest their players thinking this might allow the player to think the executive really cares about their health and longevity.  Trust me, when Klay Thompson can no longer hit jumpers and play defense he will be traded to the Nuggets to finish out his career in a never ending, we play for 9th place, environment and those games he sat out in his 20’s will be lost and for what.  Who really loses in this tragedy, it’s you and me, the fans who buy the tickets to come and see their favorite players.  More often than not we live in cities that simply can obtain nor attempt to keep star players like Denver and so we are stuck with trying to go to games where the opponent has players we want to see in person.  You buy the $50 tickets, $9 for a beer, $5 for a hot dog, sit down for the tip only to find out the guy you came to see will be sitting longer than you will during the game and now you have to watch some guy from Serbia that you have never heard of still light up your terrible home team.  The bigger question here is why in the hell would the Nuggets sit any players this year.  After the Warriors did it to them, the Nuggets thought, oh we need to follow this path, mainly because they have no plan whatsoever and they sit Faried, Galo and Lawson.  resting playersIf anything these guys should have to play 40 minutes a game as punishment for the manner in which they conducted themselves with Shaw at the helm.  Instead, coach Melvin Hunt, gets the team on a slight role, playing somewhat to the level we would expect and he gets called into the principals office to remind him, “We SUCK”!  We want a better draft pick, stop winning games and so Hunt is told to sit players.  Guess what it worked, the Nuggets lost and hopefully they will lose just as many fans over it.

It’s On The Way

To lighten the mood, I figured I would take a moment to dive into a budding superstar that I have been talking about for weeks, Rudy Gobert.  will_farrell_shootingThis Flying Frenchman, has come off the bench and into the starting role for the Utah Jazz, only to become one of the most dominating forces in the NBA right now.  He stands at 7 foot 1 inch and can touch the rim from his tippy toes.  He is a natural rebounding maching, averaging over 16 rebounds per game since Kanter was traded to OKC.  Most of us aren’t Jazz fans but let me tell you, Gobert, gives you a reason to watch them.  This young team will fend for a playoff spot in the West and if they played in the East, they would be in the top 3.  Once he learns to add a 15 foot jump shot and put on a few pounds, he might be a guy you get to watch on the national stage because the Jazz will put up W’s on a consistent basis.  The best news about this young man is the fact that this is only his second season and really his rookie year.  gobert_mar10The Jazz add Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward, who are also young stars with a starting back court that are also rookies.  The NBA beat writers keep talking about Minnesota and the stars they have up there in the north but that’s all they are, Northmen.  The Flying Frenchman and the frontline of the Rocky Mountains, lies in Utah and assuming they can keep this talent together, no don’t REST them, these guys will be fun to watch for years to come and remind me of a young team in OKC of 5 years ago.

Score It

Over the past six months, I have spent countless hours analyzing sports information, watching television shows, listening to sports radio and of course watching all the games you can imagine.  To say the least, this job never stops, it never quits, it’s seven days a week.  So why do it you ask?  The answer is simple, So You Don’t Have To!  All of this analysis is being done, programs built, report generation is being automated and we are almost to a point where you, our reader, can take advantage of all these tools.  We have added a lot more of this information even today so check out DiRTy Plays – Week of March 16th, for all the insight and information you will need to play daily NBA fantasy games.  We not only provide you with projections and an optimal lineup, we also tell you why these players have the projections they have.  basket_on_fireWe have implemented an Absolute system that will identify players in specific salary ranges that you absolutely have to play for tonight’s contests.  We are currently giving away a free Platinum membership if you contact us to the next 15 individuals who sign up.  What will you get you ask?  It’s simple, you will get the full list of projections, access to one of our data analysts for any questions or additional insight you might have, reports will be emailed to you on a daily basis and as our complete lineup optimization tool is being finalized you will get to beta test it’s functionality.  Yes, this costs you nothing and now you get all of the tools that I use to build my earnings each and every day.  Yesterday marked the 24th consecutive day of profit on FanDuel and 7th straight day on DraftKings.  If you want us to further analyze your playing style, projected profit margins based on a certain playing type and contest level, we are happy to do that.  I share this with you today so that you understand that we want to win with you, not against you and we play too.  We don’t just throw out a bunch of information just to leave you with a bunch of numbers, we provide in depth analysis of what this information can be used for and better decision making overall.  Work Smarter and you will find your earnings going up each and every day.  It might only be that you make a few dollars a day to get started but we have designed a systematic approach to how much you should spend, what tournaments and games to play and when to double-down and increase your overall profit margin.  It’s not as simple as play this lineup on one contest and now I should make a secondary income.  Let me help you build this pillar of revenue strategically.  At the same time, I am not going to sit here and believe that you have nothing to offer like many of these information sites.  If you would like to see something different, have an idea for a certain metric but aren’t sure how to get the proper data to review it, contact me, and I will figure it out for you.  Now let’s see our progress to date as we will look to provide a weekly update in our Score It section every Thursday!  One last note, we are working on baseball now so look for that information to be coming in April.

Absolute Must Have, Notable & Sleeper – New Segment

The definition for these respective categories is all based on the salary assigned to the individual for today’s games on both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  The Absolute Must Have category is designated for players with a salary above $8,000.  The Absolute Notable is for players that have a salary between $5,300 and $7,900.  Absolute Sleeper is defined as players that have a salary at or below $5,200.  We will be identifying the best player for these respective salary ranges each day and you should take all three of these individuals as they have the best matchup and the projection combination for the day.  You will then be able to review the next section where we outline some additional players to complete your lineup and finished off with a lineup to consider for each site.

Absolute Must Have

  • Kyle Lowry– Projected with a 40.1 on Fan Duel and a 41.0 on DraftKings.  He has the best matchup with an overall ranking of #1 and he is still on the somewhat cheap side considering his output will get you at least 12% of your required scoring total to cash tonight.

Absolute Notable

  • Goran Dragic– He is our guy for Fan Duel tonight, coming in with a solid projection of 33.9 and has been playing well of late.  The Heat have been solid in the back court with Wade playing great, look for this to continue tonight.
  • Elfrid Payton – He comes in with the best rating for our Absolute Notable section for DraftKings with a projection of 34.5.  It should be noted that Tobias Harris will most likely not play tonight so look for Payton, Oladipo and Vucevic to pickup the scoring duties tonight.

Absolute Sleeper

  • Robin Lopez– A projection of 23.1 on Fan Duel means can provide you with solid output from the Center position and allow you to afford some other key guys tonight.
  • Justin Hamilton– I’m sure that most of you have no idea who this young player is and really why should you.  Unless you follow the T-Wolves and read their media reports you would never know that this guy has come into the starting lineup with Garnett out and is averaging 12 points and 8 rebounds per game over his last 5 games.  For DraftKings we have him projected at 27.5 tonight.

Sediment-al

3 Strikes

1 – Football is and has always been a brutal sport.  It satiates our bloodlust.  It feeds the ancestral need to watch brutes maim each other in the Coliseum.  We watch more intently now, devour fantasy stats, play in leagues, play online and buy merchandise.  We obsess and have been consumed by a product that promotes violence, while we swivel away when that violence spills over into real world.  We watch fascinated, as young men mature up the ladder to hopefully play professional football – knowing the inherent risks involved – just for that chance at eternal glory the mob showers their heroes with – only to later bemoan their suffering.

The NFL has been called out for the cover-up of head trauma and parents have begun to opt out, not letting their sons play football.  The media acting as town crier, continues to signal the end of Pro-Football and yet the adoration advances.  Now we learn of several shocking retirements of players that still have treadlife – retiring because of injuries, or future health risks.  Patrick Willis having a Hall of Fame type career, betrayed by the pain in his feet.  Jake Locker retires after 4yrs in the league and joins Sydney Rice as players labeled with potential never realized.  However, Chris Borland, a Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate, was maybe the biggest surprise, retiring after one year and was looked at as the next man up after P.Willis – will the last man in the 49ers locker-room please turn off the lights…

The Town Crier is shouting, this is the beginning of the end for the NFL.  Calling this the tip of the iceberg for the League and too recognize how dangerous the game has become.  The NFL counters that concussions are down, and that may be true, but this is a sport built on the assumption of brutality.  One on one battles actually exist, bones are broken, blood is spilled, exotic sports cars conducting ballet with dump trucks and we love every minute of it – fall can not come soon enough.   But what of the product?  Will the cries of fervor and weekly campaigns of “think of the children,” against the league change how football is watched?  All the players that are retiring of injuries and fear of “after-football” will be replaced by others seeking idolatry – there will always be those willing to sacrifice themselves for our sanguine hunger for the adulation of hero worship.  But at what cost to the talent pool?  Do the better athletes migrate to other sports, that require less than the requisite pounds of flesh the NFL offers?  Baseball players live normal healthy lives “after-baseball,” receive pensions, and medical benefits that are the envy of every sport – you can play longer, make more money, but the globalization of the game of Baseball, adds more to the talent pool.

If we get to the point that talent will not play in our Coliseums – we will find others – maybe we continue with the convict philosophy the NFL seems to embrace, #RayRice, #GreggHardy, #AaronHernandez, etc…We will be entertained while our true gladiators will be those that we care the least about – the locked up dregs of society.  Or Elon Musk will develop robotic machines that play our games with an exploding football.  When you drop a pebble in a pond you get ripples – soon that ripple fills the whole pond.  This could be that moment and I say that ripple has started and will circumvent the whole NFL pond.  We will remember more what football used to be than what it has become.  Players will come and go, but our thirst will always exist and we will be forever hungry.

2 – What we have done is develop a new way of thinking.  A new way to approach the way sports are looked at, and today we have new ways to play sports, with Daily Fantasy games.  We can now satisfy our urge to play arm-chair GM.  We have more tools at our disposal than our fathers did to predict outcomes, or know what players will perform more consistently.  This is what we work on.  This is what we offer and it is amazing.  Other sites, other prognosticators may shout louder, may have more followers at this time – but none of them can match our actual success.  Want Proof? We gave you Reggie Jackson yesterday as a notable and all he did was score 50+ in FanDuel.  We constantly come within +/- 2pts in our projections for the NBA.  We cash over 70% of our lineups in NBA Daily games.

We are still working to provide you an experience that will be unrivaled by any site.  Providing your own personal analytics, enough information for you to make the best decision possible and giving you the tools to continually be right more than 70%.  Look around.  There is NO ONE who can predict that level of accuracy, no matter how much smoke they blow.   According to VegasInsider.com, the best NFL handicapper was right 57% of the time – In college football, 61%.  We were right 72% in both the NFL and college for the year.  We gave you over 70% accuracy in the bowl games and with what we have built, we will improve on that.

It is great to have you here reading our information, using it – It can be very exciting to think about the results you are likely to generate.  We know you want to get the best results from our site, and we want to invite you, and your friends to join us – help build the best site out there.  In the future, we will provide more amazing analysis, and tools for you to research and learn how to make some extra cash following the sports you love.  For the remainder of March, we are offering several free offers of Platinum Membership to the first 15 people that send us their email via the contact page – with “I want the free Platinum Membership” in the comments.

Thank you again for reading.  Follow along with us in our attempt at the NCAA Tournament Bracket and see if we can beat 55% accuracy from the best college hoops handicapper listed on VegasInsider.com.

3 – Oh Rockies…You put out, for a national audience, your A-lineup.  The Angels, scrupulously countered with a journeyman pitcher, found in baseball’s independent league.  That’s the next level up from A-league Softball – or the more like the beer-league of baseball.  You would think we would have jumped on the guy, but no.  This is the Rockies and too often they demonstrate a lack of plate discipline or fundamentals, to hammer a guy who does not belong in the majors.  The Rockies were shut out and lost 11-0 to the not-in-Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  Mike Trout smoked two home runs – 2-run and a 3-run jacks before he exited – Mike Trout 5, Rockies 0.

I know this is Spring Training.  I know it is Baseball’s version of pre-season and none of it matters, but when we will stop hearing the excuses.  Tulo, who went 0-2 made the comment that this beer-league pitcher just: “jumped on us.”  How does that happen? Why does that happen?  The guys pitching for our team are better than Capt.Softball and still got waxed by the Halos, giving up 11 runs.  We scored none. Nada. Zip. Squadoosh.  Are we already pretending this is a road trip?  Please tell me we will have meaningful baseball after July and not another year of excuses, like we have had the last 4yrs.
