Thursday Week 7 Selections

This is a new section for us, as we have heard your requests for us to provide our insights and thoughts about players in the Thursday game each week.  We haven’t focused on this game, simply because these players aren’t eligible in the main contest each week but there are some great value tournaments that do include these players so here we go.

For this week, we have the 49ers and the Seahawks.  A game that the last couple of years has been an exciting matchup and mostly defensive play.  This year, both teams are struggling and there aren’t too many standouts from a fantasy perspective.  In fact, I suggest that there won’t be a single player in this game that ends up on the winning lineup for the full week $1,000,000 challenge.  That said here are some guys to consider:

  • Garrett Celek – Face it the Seahawks can’t stop the TE position this season, look for him to be a cheap, yet productive play with a projection of 8.6 and a salary of only $2,500.
  • Carlos Hyde – The 49ers will run the ball and Hyde will get all of the work load. He probably cracks the end zone once and gets you a 12.8.
  • Jimmy Graham – The Seahawks have made a concerted effort to get him the ball and he comes off a 100 yard performance. I don’t trust this much but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go over a 100 yards again without a td this week.

Weekend Update: #SadFansAreSad

#1 with a Bullet…

Oh the humanity…Bert, you got waxed again – remember when you opened your mouth at a Texas football camp and said; if you didnt have a fullback you would get your ass kicked?  Well Pepperidge Farms remembers and apparently so did Kingsbury.  All the offseason hype, all the faux-swagger and next week is Texas A&M – you’ve got Hawg-Town losing their minds.  Bert, you know it’s bad when the people of Hawg-nation are calling for Greg Schiano, Lame Kitten, or just outright cheating.  It’s gotta sting the nostrils a bit.  Sure, fans will get over ranking 118th in 3rd-down conversion-defense, or ranking 84th in penalty yards and even 119th in RedZone efficiency – but having Kliff Kingsbury put you in your place?  These are Dark Days Bert, dark days…

Dark Days ahead for Auburn too.  This is who Auburn is.  They just don’t go quietly into the night, they fall off the cliff.  It’s in their DNA.  Their history proves it, and when a defensive back spouts off about how easy it will be to stop Leonard Fournette…well we all saw what happened.  Fournette had Auburn quitting before halftime, especially Mr. Ford – the mouthee.   But, to me, the issue is Jeremy Johnson.  He had a lot of hype coming in and the expectation was that he would do and be everything we’ve come to expect from the field-general of Auburn’s offense.  He has the talent, just not the heart or more importantly the head to get it done, because it is not translating to the field in real time.  Seriously though, it’s Auburn and it was a great weekend for those who dislike the entire state of Alabama.

More sad fans were found in SoCal.  Beyond Sark’s pre-game holla-ba-looza earlier in the year, the only thing people really had to say about him was – He’s a nice guy.  I’m sure he is a nice guy and that is honorable, but when it is attached to a football coach that is getting treatment for a drinking problem, he says he doesn’t have and then Stanford happens, you get flashbacks.  The kind of flashbacks that take you back to Seattle where Sark was 34-29 and the thought was, “it was hard to breakthrough in Washington, and wait and see what he can do with national-elite talent.”  Well we did. Talent is important, but it’s what you do with it, and so far and far too often, Sarkisian is outmatched by the other guy on the other side-line.  It’s going to get harder for “the Fans of Troy” to believe this is going to work as envisioned, because, as of right now –  it’s not the symbol of victory that fans are giving, it’s the number of losses every year.

But what about Ole Miss and Alabama? The Rebels caused five turnovers Saturday and also benefited from a once-in-a-lifetime—see Auburn in bamasad2013—miracle touchdown in a six-point win in Tuscaloosa.  Alabama is going too have to, again, win out.  But is it the same as last year? Last year, Alabama had a defined starting quarterback. Saturday, Nick Saban went with sophomore Cooper Bateman (who got blown up) before he was replaced by Jake Coker – who had started Alabama’s first two games. Coker almost led Alabama to it’s best come-from-behind victory at Bryant-Denny Stadium since the one Cam Newton led in 2010.  This is a fluke they say, the dynasty is still intact, the emperor’s new clothes are still made from the finest invisible silks…To quote our friend Lee Corso – NOT SO FAST…Alabama is 4-5 against top 15 teams since 2013.  That’s a trend, not a fluke, and what I’m saying is – gone are the days that Alabama beats teams with comparable talent more often than not.  Back in the day, Alabama fans would be upset if you beat someone by 10pts instead of 20 and after they’d come back down to earth, they’d be on to the next week.  Now the freakouts seem longer and that might cause Saban to see the writing on the wall and pack up.

For week 3 we were 72% SU and 64% ATS – that still crushes, but it is not what we are used to around here – our upsets did pretty well, but the ones we thought would be E-Z, hmmm not so much as we’d like.  If you haven’t seen it, take a look at how Memphis tied the game at 41 in the 4th qtr against Bowling Green – yeah a full-on double-reverse-flea flicker!!!

Other thoughts I cannot put anywhere else:

  • Notre Dame has lost a starting defensive tackle, a starting tailback, a starting tight end and a starting quarterback to season-ending injuries. Saturday, it may have lost a starting safety to a chest-bump-celebration
  • TCU lost their cornerback to a knee injury against SMU and also had 5 other defensive players sit out with injuries
  • Doing his best Johnny Manziel impression – OU quarterback Baker Mayfield, accounted for a school-record 572 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in the Sooners’ 52-38 win over Tulsa
  • Al Golden escaped with a much needed victory over Nebraska, but it still does not seem to haved cooled off his seat any.  During the game you could see a plane pulling a banner that read: C’MON #FIREGOLDEN. THESE BANNERS ARE EXPENSIVE – nevermind the Hurricanes were up 17 by halftime.  Maybe he felt vindicated after watching Miami choke away a 23pt lead, yet still won 36-33 in OT
  • For Nebraska, it could have been one of the great comebacks in their history – then Tommy Armstrong threw an interception on the 1st play of OT, and then a player gets flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct when he shoved the Miami guy who intercepted it – Miami, short field goal – ball game.  It’s a heart-breaking way to lose a game, and yet it has happened to Nebraska twice in three weeks.

It’s all about the Benjamin

Some headlines will highlight Johnny Manziel‘s role in the Browns’ 28-14 win over the Titans. But the star of the show was Travis Benjamin, who caught touchdown passes of 60 and 50 yards from Manziel and returned a punt 78 yards for a TD. The only other active players to have scored three TDs of 50 yards or longer in one game were Chris Johnson (2009) and Tavon Austin (2013). Benjamin was the first Browns player ever to do so – ever.

Benjamin also caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Manziel in the Browns’ season opener. The only other player in NFL history with four touchdowns of 50 yards or longer in his team’s first two games of a season was Jim Brown for Cleveland in 1963 – 1963!

Manziel may have completed just 8-of-15 passes, but he was able to limit the turnovers and make plays when the Browns needed him the most.  In reality, there is absolutely no reason for Mike Pettine to go back to a lower-ceiling quarterback in Josh McCown.  As a result of Manziel replacing McCown, Cleveland extended its streak to 14 consecutive seasons in which at least two different players started a game at QB. That tied the longest such streak in the NFL since 1950, set by New England from 1980 to 1993. The Patriots drafted Drew Bledsoe with the first pick in the 1993 NFL Draft, and Bledsoe ended New England’s streak in 1994.

Are the Cardinals early Favorites?

Fresh off a solid win against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1, Bruce Arians and the Cardinals laid the smack down against an inferior Bears team in Chicago. While the game was relatively close about halfway through, anyone watching it knew full well that Arizona was going to end up pulling away.

For Carson Palmer, it was a continuation of what has been a stellar run for a USC quarterback. The veteran has posted a 15-2 record with 34 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions. His four touchdowns on Sunday – including three to Larry Fitzgerald – represents the first time Palmer has matched that total since he was with the Oakland Raiders back in November of 2012.  That was the first regular-season game of Fitzgerald’s NFL career in which he scored more than two touchdowns; he came into the game with 89 TDs.

Only one player in league history with that many touchdowns never scored three in a game: Charley Taylor (90 TDs) – (Note that Fitzgerald caught three touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game following the 2008 season, but never before in a regular-season game.)

New Rams, same as the old Rams

All the good feelings the St. Louis Rams may have felt following their Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks came crashing down in D.C. on Sunday. Never really in control of the game against Washington, St. Louis dropped an ugly game by the score of 24-10. At this point, we have come to expect Fisher-led squads to lay eggs following good performances.

It happened in all three of the Rams big wins last year — against Seattle, San Francisco and Denver. In fact, the Rams lost the following week after beating those favored teams. This is one of the primary reasons I avoided to pick St. Louis on Sunday.

Kirk Cousins completed 23 of 27 passes (85%) and Matt Jones gained 123 yards on 19 carries in the Redskins’ 24-10 win over the Rams. Jones and Alfred Morris, who gained 121 yards on Week 1, are the first Redskins teammates to rush for at least 100 yards in the team’s first and second game of a season (one in each game, that is). The only other running backs to do that in this century were LaDainian Tomlinson and Michael Turner for San Diego in 2006.

For his part, Cousins posted the fourth-highest completion percentage in team history (minimum: 20 passes). The three higher marks were by Mark Brunell, 89 percent against Houston in 2006; Patrick Ramsey (Tulane), 86 percent against the Giants in 2004; and Sammy Baugh, 86 percent against the Steelers in 1945.

New England is putting the league on notice

Tom Brady passed for 466 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots’ 40-32 win at Buffalo. Brady’s totals after two games-754 yards and 7 TDs without an INT-are rare even for a quarterback of his elite status. This is the second time he has passed for at least 700 yards and seven touchdowns in his first two games of season, the first being 2011. Only four other players did that even once: Jim Kelly (1991), Drew Bledsoe for the Patriots (1994), Peyton Manning (2013), and Aaron Rodgers (2013). Of those players, only Manning and Brady did so without throwing an interception.

Incidentally, Brady set a record for passing yards in one game against the Bills, breaking a mark that was set the same month that Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth’s single-season home-run record. On October 29, 1961, George Blanda of the Houston Oilers passed for 464 yards at War Memorial Stadium in Buffalo, and that mark remained the highest against the Bills until Sunday.

At some point, the Patriots will have to find a run/pass balance on offense – right?. They won’t be able to dominate like this through the air on a consistent basis – can they? The interesting dynamic here is that New England did average nearly four yards per rush. It’s not like the running game was completely ineffective.  Instead, Bill Belichick and Co. decided to make a statement, again, that the big boys of the East don’t reside in Western New York and play under Rex Ryan.  It could be a long year for anyone who gets in their way.

The Eagles are mess

About halfway through three quarters on Sunday against Dallas, the Eagles had racked up more penalty yards than total yards. Heck, the Cowboys domination could be summed up by the fact that they had run more plays (44) – at about the nine-minute mark in the third quarter – than the Eagles had total yards (34). It was that ugly.

The Cowboys defeated the Eagles, 20-10, in a game in which the story was Tony Romo‘s broken collarbone.  But storyline 1-A was the continued ineffectiveness of DeMarco Murray, who netted two yards on 13 carries one week after gaining nine yards on eight carries in Philadelphia’s season opener.  Over the last 30 seasons, there are only four games in which a defending rushing champion gained less than 10 yards on at least five carries. Christian Okoye did it in 1990, Chris Johnson in 2010, and Murray in each of his first two games with the Eagles.

Murray’s net of 2 yards was the third lowest in NFL history by a defending rushing champion in a game of at least 10 carries. Steve Van Buren of the Eagles was held to negative-2 yards on 10 carries by the Browns in 1950; and Clem Daniels, the 1963 AFL rushing leader, carried 14 times for negative-1 yard against the Boston Patriots in the Raiders’ opening game of the 1964 season.  But Murray’s performance on Sunday was extraordinary for any player, not just for a rushing champion. Over the last 37 seasons, only one other player finished a game with at least as many carries and as few rushing yards as Murray. Jonathan Wells of the Texans carried 13 times for 1 yard on Dec. 29, 2002 against the Titans.

It’s this type of offensive performance that will have many questioning Chip Kelly’s scheme moving forward. More than that, it will have skeptics on full alert when it comes to criticizing the team’s off-season moves. And now at 0-2 on the season, Philadelphia finds itself in a must-win situation against the New York Jets next week.

6 straight home losses?!

At 0-2 on the season (2nd straight year), Drew Brees and Co. are in a terrible position. Only 10 percent of teams that have started 0-2 since the 2007 season have earned a playoff spot. And while playing in the NFC South helps New Orleans early in the year, they just lost a home game against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad that won just two games last season.  Costing many people their survivor pool!!!

Jameis Winston led the Buccaneers to a 26-19 win at New Orleans. Winston became the first quarterback chosen first in the NFL Draft to get a September road win in his rookie season since John Elway did so in 1983.  Of course, Elway’s two road wins in September 1983 have a big fat asterisk, since Steve DeBerg was the QB who rallied the Broncos to both of those victories.

Since that time, #1 picks had lost 16 straight September starts in their rookie season, and it’s an impressive list of QBs: two losses each by Troy Aikman, Jeff George, Drew Bledsoe, Peyton Manning, Tim Couch, and David Carr, followed by single losses by Matthew Stafford, Sam Bradford, Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck.

There isn’t much left up for interpretation here. New Orleans appears to be terrible.

Looking well past his prime, Brees was outplayed by Jameis.  Drew completed 24-of-38 passes for 255 yards with one touchdown and one interception. This came on the heels of Tampa Bay’s defense yielding FOUR touchdown passes to Marcus Mariota last week.

If the Saints can’t win a home game against a bottom-feeder, it pretty much tells us what we need to know about this team. Unfortunately for Brees, the twilight of his career is likely going to be spent with fans watching him thru paper-bags.

Shots Up

To recap Mega Slam Wednesday, it can be said in one word, Thriller!  There were 26 teams in action last night and there was no shortage of close games, game winning attempts, blowouts, playoffs implications and injuries.  It makes you wonder why we sit here on Thursday morning and there is only one game of action tonight.  For all of you avid NBA Fantasy players you get the day off today.  I don’t know about you but I was surely disappointed to find out that Milwaukee and Indiana is the only game I will get to see tonight.  Especially considering the games that went down last night.  We started off the night with the Bulls and Raptors and the Bulls showed why they are still in the hunt in the Eastern Conference and why the Raptors are looking at another first round exit.  raptors_fallingThe Raptors have been reeling of late and given the fact that Kyle Lowry can’t seem to stay on the court over a bruised back, it doesn’t surprise me that Raptors find themselves falling hard down the stretch.  The Bulls however are starting to get healthy and with Derrick Rose seemingly ready to return to action in two weeks, they are a team to look out for moving forward.  We quickly moved to the Miami Heat game and I fully expected them to tank that game given the fact that Dwayne Wade was (resting) and Whiteside had to get ten stitches in his hand the night before.  They unpredictably came out on fire and got huge contributions from Haslem and Dragic.  While they did let the game get close they were able to pull it out and remain on top of Boston, there was a moment with about three minutes left that I thought, are they going to lose on a buzzer beater again!  The Atlanta Hawks got back on track with a victory against the Magic last night.  For all you fantasy players, this was the game to watch.  If you had Millsap, Payton and Korver, then you kicked off the night with a great start.  If you added Carroll, Harris, Teague and Vucevic then you were sitting around 275 on Fan Duel with two guys to play. George Hill hit a shot late to secure victory over the Wizards, who just like the Raptors, are looking at falling into the playoffs.  What happened to this team that started out so hot?  The only thing I can tell you is I believe it all comes down to Gortat for the Wiz.  wizards_fallingI wrote an article three weeks ago, highlighting Gortat, where I was able to determine that if he plays 30 minutes in the game then the Wiz are 19 – 3. Unfortunately, it appears that they haven’t figured this out just yet and so he continues to play around 28 minutes and they continue to lose.  Some other thrilling games were the Nets against the Hornets and I can’t believe I am saying this, the Lakers versus the Timberwolves.  Brook Lopez continued his fantasy hot streak as he lit up the Hornets for 34 points and 10 rebounds, accumulating 54+ fantasy points for only the second time all year.  The Lakers pulled out an overtime victory against Minnesota and the star of the game was Chase Budinger.  If you follow our DiRTy Plays then you would have known, he was one of our key Sleepers last night and he did not disappoint.  What I took away from these games is that if Thad Young plays, Lopez is unstoppable, if Young misses time as he got injured last night, Lopez will be an over priced center for your daily lineup.  As for the Lakers and T-Wolves, what can you say, the T-Wolves give it all they have each night.  The Lakers are quietly tanking in hopes of top 3 draft pick this summer to make one last run with Kobe.  Nothing would please me more than to see the Lakers add Kevin Love this summer, get Randle back and add a strong small forward to the mix, who can shoot threes.  You keep Lin and Clarkson as your point guards and now the Lakers might compete for the 7th or 8th seed next year.  We finished the night with Rockets holding off a late surge by the Pelicans, 95 – 93.  What was crazy about this game was the fact that the Pelicans were up 16 early in the first half, only to relinquish it in the second half.  They were down 12 when Anthony Davis jumped up and stole a full court lob.  As he came down, he tapped shoulders with Cory Brewer and went to the ground.  I immediately thought to myself, there he goes again, he can’t stay on the court and will he be another tragedy of big men who can’t stay healthy.  He did return and almost lead a come back but clearly his shoulder is going to require surgery.  I welcome the thought of an NBA player, playing through the pain, attempting to make the playoffs.  We just don’t see that these days and instead we get a bunch of guys complaining about chartered flights, back to back games and an otherwise grueling schedule #INeedRest.  Don’t get me started on that again but thank you Anthony, you put a glimmer of hope back into my mind that not everyone is as soft as these guys are today. That said, I fully expect Davis to require surgery this summer and hope that he will be back at it next season because the Pelicans are not going to make the playoffs.  The last game was the Spurs and Thunder.  A marquee matchup, highlighted by ESPN, we got what the Thunder really are, HOPELESS!  They got blown off the court and no MVP that I can remember every took a beat down like that so good-bye to this notion that Westbrook deserves to be in the MVP race.  No one put Kevin Love in the MVP race last year, while he put up 26 points and 11 rebounds per game, every night. The reason for this is simple, they didn’t WIN and neither are the Thunder.  Good thing there is only 10 games left and they have a three game lead.

It’s On The Way

Let’s have a quick breakdown of the NBA playoff picture and highlight some key games coming up over the next few days.  In the East we have a crazy race to the 8th spot. It’s going to come down to who can win games against each other down the stretch.  EasternBoston, Indiana, Charlotte and Brooklyn will probably all finish 8 or 9 games under .500 and yet they will be rewarded with a first round playoff birth against the Atlanta Hawks.  Most might think that they would get blown off the court but come playoff time a team that I think can beat the Hawks is the Indiana Pacers. It appears that Paul George is going to return here shortly and if the Pacers can squeak in, while George gets game ready, they would be a team that has the ability to compete with the Hawks.  That said only one game separates these four teams, with the Heat and Bucks, only two and four games ahead.  If one of those teams hits a cold spell or catches the injury plague then we might get two of these bottom feeders in.  It does however, appear that we are going to get three teams under .500 to make the playoffs in the East and that makes me sick!

The Western Conference is an entirely different situation.  If you watch or listen to any sports radio or talk shows on ESPN, they are constantly talking about the WesternThunder and Warriors potential matchup.  I certainly hope that last night’s beat down of the Thunder will quiet these folks.  I don’t care how well Westbrook appears to be playing.  If you actually watch his games, like I do, then you would quickly see that he loses just as many games for his team as he wins.  Yes, he is playing lights out when you look at the stat sheet and for guys like me that are constantly after fantasy value, he is your guy.  If you want to win games in the West, you cannot afford to have a turnover machine and a guy that jacks up 15 foot jumpshots with a one on four break.  That team NEEDS Durant if they are going to have any shot and that has seemingly been shot down.  Look for the Suns to make a push down the stretch and squeak in this year and leave three All-Stars watching from home.  It’s not that I don’t like the Pelicans chances but as I continue to say, Davis is hurt, he is giving it everything he can but he is not enough. Tyreke Evans is not a point guard and until the Pelicans have one that can actually take the court.  I do believe that we will have ten, yes count them, ten teams that go over .500 in the West.

Teams like the Jazz, who have been playing very well during the back half of the season are going to finish a few games under .500 for the season with a bright future.  The talks of just taking the top sixteen teams to the NBA playoffs in the future is something that I embrace.  Embrace change and think outside of the box.  It is visionary people that lead our country, fortune 500 companies and I would like to think lead our major sports.  Do we really need to watch teams that can barely beat the Nuggets on a night in a night basis for a 7 game series?  I say NO!  Make this change while at the same time rewarding the team that makes the last spot in the draft with a top 5 lottery pick.  You reward the teams that want to win and take away from the teams that seemingly want ten centers on their team, Philadelphia.  I can’t even tell any of your players apart with the exception of Noel and Covington.  Noel is your big man and Covington should be your shooting guard.  The rest should be sent to the D-League along with your management team for building a team of centers in a league full of guards.

Score It

Absolute Must Have, Notable & Sleeper – New Segment

The definition for these respective categories is all based on the salary assigned to the individual for today’s games on both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  The Absolute Must Have category is designated for players with a salary above $7,000.  The Absolute Notable is for players that have a salary between $5,300 and $6,900.  Absolute Sleeper is defined as players that have a salary at or below $5,200.  We will be identifying the best player for these respective salary ranges each day and you should take all three of these individuals as they have the best matchup and the projection combination for the day.  You will then be able to review the next section where we outline some additional players to complete your lineup and finished off with a lineup to consider for each site.

DiRTy DiMEs Tuesday

March 24th, 2015

To go directly to our daily NBA breakdown DiRTy Plays, just click here.

Today, I wanted to take some time and provide you all with a breakdown of the last five games as it pertains to each position for your Daily NBA Fantasy games.  Each day I look to provide you with Absolute Must Haves, Notables and Sleepers.  Within each of these categories I will look to provide you with players that you should consider taking in each night’s games, who will out perform their projection and how injuries will impact other players performance for that night.  FD_Last5_overallIn addition to this daily insight, I am going to provide you a weekly breakdown of players by position as it pertains to both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  So let’s take a look at the Overall Performances over the last 5 games for Fan Duel.  The overall, number one, player was Anthony Davis.  He comes in slightly higher than Westbrook but it should be noted that Davis did not play in all 5 games as such his average is based on last 3 games.  The notable players that I want to highlight for you are Brook Lopez and Eric Bledsoe.  Both of these players have been playing great, Bledsoe, primarily due to Knight being out.  Look for that production to decline slightly.  As for Lopez, I do not expect a decline in production.  Since acquiring Thad Young it has had a major impact in terms of where Lopez is able to play on the court.  DK_last5_OverallHe has been able to plug the middle and post-up down low, where he is highly productive. Moving onto DraftKingsthere really isn’t much change in the information. A slight modification in the ranking of the players but the same 10 exist.  If #KingJames will play the full game, he will go over 50+ fantasy points each night.  The problem is that the Cavs are playing mostly Eastern Conference teams down the stretch and they simply dominate these folks.  That means that for your spend James isn’t logging enough minutes to continue to pay those high salary prices.  Look for our Notables to compliment your lineup in these considerations.  It should be noted that I am in the process of defining a salary limit per player.  This key performance metric will identify the maximum spend per player. This will allow for you to quickly identify players that are too expensive regardless of output.  The simple example here is Westbrook.  He currently costs over $13,000 on both gaming sites.  That means that he is approximately 22% of your spend.  We know that in order to cash you must hit 330 on Fan Duel and 300 on DraftKings.  That means that in order for Westbrook to be of value for that spend he would need to produce a 72.6 on Fan Duel and a 66 on DraftKings.  Those are high numbers to get to and while he certainly has the capability of that, this means you have to find two or three other players that are going to fall in our Notable or Sleeper segments in order to fill your lineup.  Why not take another Must Have that is only 15% of your spend and now you can get two high-end Notables.

Point Guard Breakdown

FD_last5_pg

Clearly, Westbrook, leads this category but I just wanted to point out to you that Chris Paul has been averaging almost 50+ fantasy points.  Two other folks that have been creeping up the list here are Elfrid Payton and Reggie Jackson.  Both of these guys have been teetering on the triple-double mayhem and if Westbrook wasn’t averaging that over his last 10 games, these guys would be highlighted on ESPN more often.  DK_last5_pgAnother guy to consider would be Goran Dragic.  He has been averaging 36.1 fantasy points per game and with the Heat battling for position into the playoffs, look for that to continue.  A disappointing player, Steph Curry, has not played well.  He tops our list of over priced players and should not be considered on daily lineups until his salary declines below $9,000.  Another young player in Kyrie Irving, is right there with Curry for most over priced player at this position.  Sure they might each go off and put up 50 for you but more often than not they will put around 30 fantasy points and you could have had more production from guys like Jeremy Lin and George Hill. Don’t take the risk on these guys until further notice.

Shooting Guard Breakdown

James Harden certainly leads this list and should be considered the best SG in the game right now. He will most likely win the MVP, unless folks turn to Curry.  I say without Howard, the Rockets haven’t skipped a beat and that is why he is my MVP right now.  JJ Redick, Randy Foye and Avery Bradley come in at the bottom of this top 10 list but are players you should consider each night simply due to the fact that they don’t cost too much.  DK_last5_sgIf you can fill your lineup with guys that all fall in our Notable segment, you will have the most consistency in terms of production.  If two or three of these guys go off and put up 50+ to compliment the 30+ you will get from everyone else, this is how you cash every day in daily NBA fantasy games.  So many players try to shoot the moon and go for first place.  That would be great if it happened but the math says to put your money on consistency and you will prosper.  Some fun facts to consider when playing NBA fantasy.  You only need to cash in 33 out of 100 games when playing a $3 entry in order to break even.  If you win 40 games out of 100, you will profit $60. FD_last5_sgWith our insight and daily breakdown this should be of no concern.  In fact most of our subscribers are cashing over 70% of the time.  We play the games too and provide you with a weekly update of our progress. D-Wade has been very productive of late and even earned the Eastern Conference Player of the Week last week. Unfortunately, this will turn him into an over priced player based on the salary algorithms of both Fan Duel and DraftKings very soon.  If he hoovers around $8,000 then you are safe.  Anything above that and you should consider guys like Danny Green or DeMar DeRozan.

Small Forward Breakdown

Yes, of course, #KingJames is going to top this list but did you know that Gallinari has actually been one of the most consistent players since Marvin Hunt took over for Brian Shaw.  He was moved into the starting lineup at that time and since then the Nuggets look like the team we expected to have in Denver from the beginning of the season.  FD_Last5_sfGuess all it took was putting a guy in place that listened to his players and encourages a style of play conducive to the talent of the team.  Shaw, I really have nothing against you but I must say, you need to learn how to communicate with guys in their 20’s or you won’t have a head coaching job in the NBA.  It doesn’t matter who you played with or who you coached under, what matters is winning.  Look at D’Antony, he is probably going to be the guy here in Denver and why is that?  It is because he likes to play up and down and doesn’t care about defense. DK_last5_sfYes, I know that this will never win a championship but that isn’t what Denver is all about anyway. So next time you get the job, listen to the local media and your team, you will last a bit longer.  The only other notable player to consider from this list is Kawhi Leonard.  In fact, if you were to play him and James on nights where they are both playing, those lineups will cash 42.6% of the time. That is note worthy considering I already told you that at 40% you are profitable by a fairly high margin. Add some other key guys from other positions and now you have a shot at finishing high. The Spurs need to keep winning games in the West so they are going to have to play their key guys.  This means Leonard.

Power Forward Breakdown

I already told you that Anthony Davis has been the most productive fantasy player of late and so it is no surprise he tops this list.  Look at second place, Aldridge, almost 19 points less per game.  DK_last5_pfThat is also the largest gap across all positions.  This position also happens to be the most productive on both DraftKings and Fan Duel.  My suggestion is to spend your money on the big guys and find the Sleepers and Notables for your SG and PG positions.  They are much easier to locate and have a much higher rate of out performing their projection. There are three notable players on this list that for now are still not cap casualties and should be considered each night.  They are Kenneth Faried, Marcus Morris and Nikola Mirotic.  Let’s face facts, the closer in Chicago is Mirotic.  Did you know that he leads the NBA in points scored in the 4th quarter over the last 10 games.  Neither did I until I researched it last night.  Pretty amazing considering some of the MVP caliber performances of late.  That just means on your daily NBA fantasy lineup, don’t sweat it if he only has 15 points going into the second half or even the 4th quarter because here comes the boom.  FD_last5_pfHe will get close to 40 fantasy points per night.  Faried and Marcus Morris have seen significant increases in time on the floor and as we already pointed out the Nuggets are just moving around a lot more.  This means high rebound and high point production for Faried. He cannot play on a half-court offensive team but the run and gun he loves.  As for Morris and yes, I said Marcus NOT Markief, has been lights out.  He has put up at least 30 fantasy points in each of his last 7 games and since moving to the starting SF position he has been their best player. Unfortunately, Knight is expected back soon and so it is uncertain what this will mean to his playing time and role with the team.

Center Breakdown

Our last but certainly not least category for the day is our Center position.  This is the second highest producing position of your Fan Duel lineup.  FD_Last5_CentersThe guard position is that for DraftKings.  That all comes down to the fact that turnovers are not as heavily weighted and you earn extra points for making threes.  If you can find the big guy who busts threes and rebounds well, he is your marquee guy.  Brook Lopez has been a guy who is climbing the ladder and quickly.  This means take him while you can because just like Gobert, who only 3 weeks ago, cost under $5,500 has now increased to $8,000 per night, so too will Lopez.  Keep in mind that you don’t want to go too cheap here and so other notable players on this list are Enes Kanter and Jo Noah. If you follow us at all, we have been on the Gobert train for quite some time now and he looks great if you watch any of his games.  DK_last5_CentersHe is the flying frenchman that makes the Jazz very difficult to score against and thus the reason they are leading the NBA in defensive points allowed since the All-Star break. That said, Kanter was traded to OKC at the deadline and has been averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. This marks one of the only trades I have followed where both teams have made out like bandits.  It was great for both players to get out from underneath one another and get into styles of play that allow for them to shine.  Enjoy the show for the last couple of weeks as both of these guys will most likely be sitting at home watching the playoffs this year.  That just means look out next year!
