Thursday Week 10 Selections

If you need to know who to take for a Thursday Night contest – here are some considerations:

  • Chris Ivory – He leads the projections for players playing on Thursday and considering the Bills just gave up 33.1 points to Lamar Miller, look for Ivory to get back on track this week.
  • Brandon Marshall – What can we say, all this guy does is catch a TD every week. On FanDuel is a much higher commodity but should be considered in all formats if you include this contest.
  • Karlos Williams – McCoy might be downplaying his injury from Sunday but I’m not, I don’t think he will play and even if he does this guy has put up productive numbers in every game he has played. In fact he is averaging just over 15 fantasy points per game on DraftKings.
  • Sammy Watkins – Who knows, he might be a bust this week since he had such a nice outing over the weekend. He is already listed as questionable and that is most likely his status for the remainder of the season but Buffalo has no one else.

To get all of our full projections just come here for Draftkings and here for FanDuel.

What You Need To Know About the #NBA Last Night (11-10-15)

1. NBA Bounce House

Warriors remain undefeated

Klay Thompson netted 24 points as the Warriors improved to 8-0 on the season, defeating the Pistons, 109-95. Golden State’s average margin of victory over its first eight games this season is 17.8 points. That’s the third highest mark at this point in the season among the 30 teams to start 8-0 in NBA history. The two teams that rank ahead of the Warriors both went on to win the NBA championship that season: the 1964-65 Celtics (+18.5 average points differential) and the 1996-97 Bulls (+18.4).

Duncan pulls down 14 rebounds in Spurs’ win

Tim Duncan, who turned 39 years old this past April, grabbed 14 boards in the Spurs’ 106-88 win over the Kings. The last player with at least 14 rebounds in a game at 39 years or older was Dikembe Mutombo, who had 15 boards on April 10, 2009 for the Rockets at age 42, in his final season in the NBA. Mutombo had nine such games at 39 years or older; that’s the second highest total for any player in NBA history. Duncan has a lot of work to do to approach the record: 21 by Robert Parish.

Rookie Okafor playing like a veteranAltX.Logo.white

76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor, playing in his seventh game in the NBA, scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the 76ers’ 111-88 loss to the Bulls on Monday. Over the last 10 years, only two other players had at least 20 points and 15 rebounds in one of their first 10 regular-season games in the league: the Grizzlies’ Marc Gasol in November 2008 (27 points and 16 rebounds in his fourth career game) and the Lakers’ Julius Randle last week (22 points and 15 rebounds in his fourth game). The last 76ers player to do so was Sharone Wright in November 1994, scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds in just his second game in the NBA.

T’Wolves hold off late charge from Hawks

Andrew Wiggins scored 33 points as the Timberwolves were able to hold off the Hawks, 117-107, on Monday night. Minnesota led, 81-47, early in the third quarter, but Atlanta went on to score 58 of the next 82 points, tying the game at 105-apiece as Paul Millsap sunk a free throw with 4:25 remaining in the fourth. It’s been nearly six years since a team trailed by at least 34 points at any point in a game and was able to climb back to tie the game. That was on December 21, 2009, when the Kings did so against the Bulls. Sacramento was down by as many as 35 points in the third quarter. Led by 15 fourth-quarter points from Ime Udoka and 11 points in the final quarter from Tyreke Evans, the Kings stormed back to tie it with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth and went on to win the game, 102-98.

Indiana’s seeing double…digits

Paul George scored a game-high 27 points, and George Hill added 23 of his own as the Pacers defeated the Magic, 97-84, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana has defeated Orlando by at least 10 points on its home court in each of the last six meetings between the two teams, dating back to March 2013. That is tied for the longest current streak of this type for any team against another; the Spurs have had double-digit victories in their last six games versus the Nets in San Antonio.

It’s been over 20 years since the Pacers had such a streak against a particular opponent. They defeated the Nets in such a fashion spanning six games from December 1992 to March 1995.

2. Ice-Ice Baby

Coyotes storm back to win it in OT

Rookie Max Domi scored a pair of goals and Mikkel Boedker scored the game-winner in overtime as Arizona came back from down 2-0 to defeat the Ducks, 4-3. Prior to Monday’s game, the Coyotes did not earn a point in each of their last 25 games in which they trailed by at least two goals; that was the longest active streak in the league. The Penguins now hold that distinction, with a regulation loss in each of their last 17 games when down by two or more goals.

Getting Smart With The Tuesday Morning Quarterback

AltX.Logo.white

JayCutler1. San Diego Unplugged:

I do not remember a team that has suffered more injuries, each week, than the Chargers.  It’s a miracle they haven’t had to forfeit, and yet they maintain being competitive – that means Philip Rivers should be somewhere in the MVP discussion and spare me San Diego’s record business.  You put Rivers on the Panthers and Cam on the Bolts – no difference, except for the way Rivers’ Panthers’ would be demolishing people.  But, the Bears won and we saw the spaghetti western that is Jay Cutler, (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) conduct a drive to actually close out a game.  Jay and Alshon also broke some team records that are really laughable as too how long they have stood – it’s more a testament of how inept Chicago’s passing game has been for over 50yrs, when Jay Cutler is your best QB of all time by touchdowns.

Cutler passes Luckman in TD passes with Bears and tosses the game-winnerenhanced-buzz-3327-1377198392-2

Jay Cutler tossed two touchdown passes in the Bears’ 22-19 win over the Chargers. With his first TD pass of the game on Monday, Cutler passed Sid Luckman for the Bears all-time lead in touchdown passes. Entering Monday, Luckman had held at least a share of the Bears’ career touchdown pass record since 1943 (when he passed Bernie Masterson). Prior to Cutler surpassing Luckman, only Washington’s all-time passing touchdown leader, Sammy Baugh, had currently held his franchise’s record for a longer time than Luckman. Baugh has held that mark for the Redskins since 1937.

Cutler’s second TD pass on Monday was of the game-winning variety. Since he joined the Bears in 2009, Cutler has thrown 12 game-winning touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, the most in the NFL over that span (Matthew Stafford is next on the list with 10). It’s the second such pass for Cutler this season, also tossing one to Matt Forte to beat the Chiefs.

Jeffery ties Bears record

Alshon Jeffery had 151 receiving yards on Monday night, his third straight game with 100 or more yards on receptions. That ties the Bears record for consecutive games with at least 100 receiving yards, previously done by Harlon Hill (in 1956) and Jeff Graham (1995).

Chargers find another way to get to the end zone

Jason Verrett picked off a Jay Cutler pass and ran it back 68 yards for the touchdown, giving the Chargers a 13-0 second quarter lead on Monday. Verrett’s interception return ended San Diego’s streak of 18 consecutive touchdowns scored on passing plays, which tied the second-longest such streak in NFL history. Only the 1993 Falcons, who scored 20 straight touchdowns, all on pass plays, had a longer streak of that kind.

The Bears have allowed a league-high six return touchdowns this season (two on interceptions, two on kickoffs, one on a punt, and one on a fumble).

Sunday night’s win was a first for the Eagles

First, let’s take care of some old business. The Eagles defeated the Cowboys, 33-27, on Sunday night. It was the first victory in team history in which Philadelphia surrendered four leads before ultimately winning the game.

Sam Bradford threw a 41-yard pass to Jordan Matthews in OT to secure the win. Bradford, who turned 28 years old on Sunday, was the first quarterback to start and win a regular-season NFL overtime game on his birthday (after six QBs had started on their birthday in an overtime loss). Note also that Jake Delhomme started and won a playoff game in two overtimes on his birthday in 2004.

Sesame Street debuts

On this day in 1969, “Sesame Street,” a pioneering TV show that would teach generations of young children the alphabet and how to count, makes its broadcast debut. “Sesame Street,” with its memorable theme song (“Can you tell me how to get/How to get to Sesame Street”), went on to become the most widely viewed children’s program in the world. It has aired in more than 120 countries. The show was the brainchild of Joan Ganz Cooney, a former documentary producer for public television. Cooney’s goal was……(continue reading)

Six years later this happened

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald sinks 17 miles from the entrance to Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior, taking all 29 crew members with her.At the time of its launch in 1958, the 729-foot-long freighter was the largest and fastest ship on the Great Lakes. The Edmund Fitzgerald began its last journey on November 9, 1975, carrying 26,116 tons of iron-ore pellets. The next day, the ship and her crew met a storm with 60 mph winds and waves in excess of 15 feet. Captain Ernest McSorley steered the ship north, heading for the safety of Whitefish Bay, but the ship’s radar failed, and the storm took out the power to Whitefish Point’s radio beacon, leaving the Fitzgerald traveling blind. In the heavy seas, the vessel was also taking on a dangerous amount of water. Another ship, the Anderson, kept up radio contact with the Fitzgerald and tried to lead it to safety but to no avail.
