Tuesday’s DiRTy Dimes

Last night we witnessed a Shooting Guard battle between DeRozan and Harden.  DeRozan countered Harden’s 31pts with his own 41pts and 11 rebounds, helping the Raptors scrub the Rockets, 99-96.

Avery Bradley helped the Celtics beat the Hornets scoring 30, while Kemba Walker dished 12 assists and 28pts, with 3 rebounds of his own.  Celtics won 116-104, keepong their slim lead ahead of Brooklyn, Indiana and Charlotte.

Nerlens Noel and his double-double of 19pts 14 rebounds was not enough to beat the Lakers and Jordan Clarkson’s 26pts and 11 assists.  The Lakers win another “must lose” game and might be in danger of having their plan blow up in their face.  The Lakers could lose the rest of their games by double digits and could still find themselves 7th in the NBA Lottery and losing their top 5 protected draft pick – #TankingIsHard.

Another solid night of NBA action that seemed to be more Double-Double Monday, as we push towards the final 8 games or so of the season.

The last two weeks of March showed us some interesting things as we breakdown the positions.  First, let’s scrape off the cream; no one is able to afford Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Lebron James, Anthony Davis and Boogie Cousins on the same team, so we will focus on the other guys.  Knowing also that the Guard position is your highest scoring, with the 2nd most coming from the Center position.  This leaves the Forward position the place where you separate yourself from winning some #FreshLettuce and not cashing at all.  Many lineups are won or lost with the Forwards.

Games played from 3-16 thru 3-29-15:

Point guard

FanDuel

PGDK

DraftKings

If the MVP race was restricted to the kind of metrics used in Daily Fantasy, then it would look very different within those who play point guard.  In reality Steph Curry is having a terrific year, but has been a 4th option in the PG position, and with his cost, you have to look elsewhere for similar production at a better value.  Look what Elfrid Payton has produced in just 6 games at a better price point.  Reggie Jackson has been solid since leaving OKC and Shved cracks the top 10 APPG and crazy plays in March.

Shooting Guard

SGFD

FanDuel

SGDK

DraftKings

You notice in the Shooting Guards we have a bottleneck of value in the top 5 with Eric Bledsoe, Victor Oladipo and DeMar DeRozan.  When you look closer you see that Oladipo is doing a bit more with less.  Four of the top six Shooting Guards by APPG, will be seen in the Playoffs, so you should expect them to keep their averages up.  For Oladipo he’s still proving himself to take the next step, while Bledsoe continues to justify his recent $70m contract in September.

Small Forward

SFFD

FanDuel

SFDK

DraftKings

Everyone of these guys has had a blow up game this month, except I do not remember Wilson Chandler’s.  If you have paid any attention to the Utah Jazz, you are not surprised that Gordon Hayward is 4th in APPG.  You may be surprised that the Nuggets have two players on this list, (one in the PF) meaning that if Lawson is All-Star capable and the Nuggets have 3 Forwards that can score then how are they so awful, #Management.  Amazing stat if you can afford them: if you have Lebron and Kawhi on your team your lineup cashes over 40% of the time.  #ScienceIsAwesome.

Power Forward

PFFD

FanDuel

PFDK

DraftKings

In Power Forwards you have a logjam of guys within 3pts of each other, making cost per point a necessity.  The Bulls without D.Rose have two Power Forwards in the top 5, with the possible R.O.Y. in Nikola Mirotic.  Wiggins has the name recognition and will probably get rookie-of-the-year, but it should be Mirotic and his smooth stroke.  He has been the offense in Rose’s absence most games and in March has been on fire.  Anthony Davis and the Pelicans still have an outside chance to make the playoffs, but being 3 games back with 8 games left is a tall task.  You will still expect “The Brow” to do what he can and continue to be the guy you have to have each night he plays, if you can afford him.  It’s why our “Projection to Salary” report is so invaluable.

Center

CFD

FanDuel

CDK

DraftKings

Watching basketball on a nightly basis has made this a lot fun breaking down Centers.  Finding the value in Gobert before his price shot up and seeing Gorgui Dieng climb into the top 10, has made this month exciting for Centers, and made us big fans of new, young guys.  Boogie is so dominant that if you can afford him and find value in other guys – you take that chance.  But often times the top guys are not the guys that cash the big checks.  You often find the same overall value with Brook Lopez or Rudy Gobert that you can upgrade that Forward/Guard position to improve your chances.

These reports we provide on our RotoCanon Page, help you make the best decision possible.  Decisions like if you had Kemba, Clarkson, DeRozan, Bradley, Gobert and Booker on a lineup, you might have won $150, (#WeDid, #CalledIt).  Contact us with any questions or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you and your success.

Ball 1:

The Karmic-Wheel of Justice has two games remaining to rip out the hearts of big blue’s die-hard fans.  We told you how to beat Kentucky and Notre Dame gave it a shot, but something happened when Jerian Grant decided to not pass the ball on ND’s last 3 possessions.  Does it make a difference?  Who knows, but there is a case to be made for that kind of hero-ball costing a team a chance at victory.  Of course, maybe it’s just the (bad) luck of the Irish this year.  That’s twice, in two sports, the Fightin’ Irish have taken the number 1 team in the land to the wire, only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Now, we have the Final Four set and to be played in Indianapolis.  It will be interesting to see what kind of controversy is made or mentioned with Indiana’s new law.

For Kentucky to lose to Wisconsin, LSU gave you the formula:  Athletic big men who can rebound and start fast break points.  Wisconsin is averaging 80+ points per game and Wisconsin has to continue to make buckets from downtown.  Kaminsky gets the press, but Dekker has been the guy in the tournament and he has to continue to light it up.

When it comes to ‘Tucky, everyone has a plan until your punched in the mouth.  In this rematch it is size versus experience because both teams have talent.

What is it about Izzo‘s teams that seem to peak in the tournament.  If you saw them before the tournament, against quality opponents you would never believe they’d be in this position, and yet…

So how does Sparty beat Duke – they have to keep drinking whatever kool-aid they have been and hope the “magic” lasts.  Michigan State is the least talented team left, but might be the team that play together best.

For Duke they have to focus on Mich.St’s guards and shut them down.  Duke plays the most uptempo of anyone left and needs Winslow to keep doing what he’s doing, averaging: 14pts, 9.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, plus 1 block and 1 steal a game.

It’s been a long time, it seems that we have three really talented teams in the Final Four that all would be worthy champions – Saturday we shall see.

Ball 2:

Leave it to the sycophantic media, angry they don’t get enough of the jock-strap tea to slurp.  Dennis Dodd, member of the media, takes to twitter to flame Rodgers because…He has seats better than he does at the game?  Is allowed on the court?  Dating Olivia Munn?  Has hair?  Probably all of it and he brought up most of it in his twitter rant, only when Rodgers declined to be interviewed – as it was about Wisconsin making their second trip to the Final Four, in as many years, to play Kentucky again.  As you will see below – Dennis Dodd acted like a petulent child.  Aaron Rodgers does not need any more help in justifying his place on the court or in the stands, he did just fine by himself.  But why the outcry?  Where was it last year when he was in the stands, in the locker-room?  So what if he never went to Wisconsin (he went to Cal), he has worked in the state for over a decade.  Does that not earn him the right to support the local school they same way they support him?  As for Dodd, the irony is thick, coming from an entitled reporter who gets press passes to any event he wants – complaining on how Rodgers gets special treatment.  Dodd, He’s a NFL-MVP Quarterback and is dating an actress – welcome to ‘Murica!  Besides, how does Dodd justify himself being there – he’s a football writer and never went to Wisconsin either.

Rodgers took notice of Dodd’s manbaby tantrum and responded:

Ball 3:

We have 6 days until the season starts and in honor of that, here is what some high heat looks like.  So go out there, win your beer-league and get a good pitch to hit.  Opening Day around here is treated as a National Holiday – all you have to do is say the words and the room airs out, the light pours in.  No other day represents endless possibilities like Opening Day.  No scores yet, no losses, no blame or disappointment and no hangovers, until at least the game is over.  It’s a signal that the world is waking up from it’s cold slumber, to give way to longer, warmer days, worries as light as the clothes we wear and even the best part of the worst day is knowing it’s all going to be ok.

Ball 4 – take your base:

Only because Sportscenter had to talk about Wrestlemania XXXI last night.  Not sure how that fits within the sporting narative of the world-wide leader when the they just as easily could have opened with the season finale of The Walking Dead – It’s the same thing.  Don’t get me wrong, I have friends, actual grown-ups who watch and follow – and I myself have dallied in the male soap-opera.  But ESPN deserves a C’mon man.  It is not a sport.  A Sport is defined by me as something that is athletic and requires some sort of defense, or prevention of your opponent from scoring.  Chess is game that has defense but no athleticism.  Golf has neither.  Cycling is the worst, it has athleticism but no defense and is nothing more than what any 5yr old can do – except for enduring more pain than the other guy – and they can’t do that very well with all the blood-doping+drug use.  Wrestling it’s fun, it is athletic, however knowing the ending is predetermined, eliminates it – None of this takes away the joy you can find in any non-sport-endeavor.

There seemed to be a lot of surprises dropped this year providing salvation to a crazy week leading up to it – or so I hear – Rousey shows up with the Rock, etc – it appears to have been a blockbuster – I never knew that a guy could lose in another match – bring a briefcase to “buy-in” and steal the heavyweight title from the two guys who wearing killing each other to win.  Looks like I’ve got to watch RAW tonight to find out the DiRT.

  • Full WWE WrestleMania 31 results and winners…

3rd Stone from the Sun

This revolution goes on and on…

Justice, is supposed to be blind.  It seems like it has been a awhile since we have seen the scales tip as they should.  Life’s virtuous dance is a comedy of errors, frequently performed with you walking home one night; and a young derelict asks you for a smoke – you don’t, so you apologize you don’t have anything to give him.  But as you continue to be on your way, you feel a sharp pain in your back and then another in your arm as you turn around to watch this vagrant repeatedly stab you.  As he runs away you plead for the woman across the street to call the police.

Shortly thereafter disposed in your hospital bed, you overhear they picked up your assailant jay-walking, with the knife, your blood on it, in his hoodie-pocket – the woman who helped call the police for you also identified him and he is arrested for stabbing you.

While you continue your physical therapy you see on TV that the knife isn’t admissible because it was found without probable cause, because they only stopped him for jaywalking – and the woman is discredited because she wears eyeglasses and wasn’t wearing them at the time because she needs them only for reading – furthermore, it’s revealed that there is a pornographic theater somewhere in her neighborhood, so clearly her character is in question…

The guy who stabbed you…his attorney will say that he was fondled by his 4th grade basketball coach and you were mocking him for not being able to afford his own cigarettes that he needs for his medical condition.  So now as you look forward to months of rehab and the real possibility that you will not be able to hold more than a box of Kleenex for more than 2min and going up the stairs will require grandma’s motorized chair-lift, because the one lung that functions properly gets you as far as the laz-y-boy to the TV – all charges end up being dismissed and you wonder where is your equity?  This allegory is not far fetched – we’ve watch it all unfold in a myriad of ways across this country in real time.  Like a cop who busts a motorist for having over 200lbs of drugs in his trunk, being inadmissible because the officer pulled him over for not having a front license plate, and the state does not require it…

It’s all so fortuitous, justice being defined only by “rule of evidence”, and several institutions are failing to get it right.  The NFL resembles a kangaroo court of it’s own – at times almost a facsimile of the actual ideology in real life.  Hizzoner has said that justice for the Browns and the Falcons will be swift and severe.  The Browns for texting staff and coaches during football games.  The Falcons for pumping in crowd noise.  Crowd noise that did not help a team that went 3-5 at home.  Stupidity is punishment enough and has never been an acceptable excuse – for the Browns they deserve the death sentence as an organization with no control.  As for what the severe penalty(s) will be…who knows…it could be draft picks, fines, suspensions, no more caviar in the owner’s box, and all beer must be served at room temperature, in red solo cups from Budweiser.  We know the NFL esteems the safety of QB’s more than women and children – the going rate for a player who abuses women is 2 games or time off with pay – if it is simply child abuse, just time off with pay…so what will the punishment really be from a league tribunal, who claims a balance sheet defense, being unable to afford endzone cameras – Belichick is still lobbing profanity laced tirades at the Oligarchy of old rich white men.

Justice?  One rule change to aid officials in getting the call right is turned down and another is made because everyone forgot the rules – turning something legal, illegal.  The “illegal type thing” is the  innovative play the Patriots used against the Ravens.  The NFL has decreed swiftly to punish creativity and innovation – while rewarding the soap-opera of fools.  All the creativity of Belichick did was line up multiple men along the line of scrimmage, but outside the tackle box.  Any youth football coach will tell you to ignore a player who lines up along the line of scrimmage between the split end and the tackle – that player is a decoy.  Simple right?

But instead Hizzoner ruled it was too much for a professional athlete to have to think about such complicated, unorthodox formations – as the forward pass was once thought of.  Someone like John Harbaugh should know better, being a son of a coach, whining, calling it an “illegal type of thing” – it isn’t, but who knows what that even means – the rule is clear as it relates to how many can lineup on the line of scrimmage, how many must, who is eligible and all told to the referee who announces it, so it is far from deceptive.  Innovation is a fundamental right, but then again, change is hard for troglodytes and….

Justice, seems to be best served cold – like revenge.  Served up when a governing body is tasked and created to keep institutional control from spinning out of instituional anarchy.  Existing to prevent rogue nation-states of education from creating an unfair advantage on the field of play – rogue’s like SMU, Kentucky and USC.  But who watches the watchers?  What do you do when internal affairs makes up the rules as they go – how does law and order get upheld and when does justice prevail?  For the NCAA it doesn’t.  It does what it wants.  It fabricates, oversteps and turns away whenever it feels like and decides that its ceremonious power is absolute.  You either become what you hate or fall victim to what it is you hate and the NCAA is now emerging from the muck as the bastard child, as rogue as any of the institutions they pretend to serve.  They regulate peanut butter instead of searching for real corruption.  They profit from every contest the “student-athlete” participates in, but when that same student barters free merchandise they received in a NCAA-sanctioned event for other services – they swing the hammer and tattoo justice.  Decades of child-abuse and assault is swept under and given a blind eye, when they chose to reinstate arbitrary wins – completely missing the point of what “lack of institutional control” actually means.  Miami gets nothing and USC’s Todd McNair gets a show cause penalty for no evidence of wrongdoing.  Typical misguided NCAA Frontier-Justice.

The NFL, the NCAA, all frauds, as is every other entity that believes they merit justice fairly and with principle while we watch their hypocritical maneuvers and insane decisions, only to wonder when does the scale tip back towards due process.   Watching the faith we had in Justice disappear is sad and confusing.  Justice is a backbone of democracy, essential to the Republic – you lie, cheat, steal etc, you pay the price – now its all shrouded in a fog of mistrust and disbelief – being manipulated by corporations and governments – leaving imitation justice merited out on the small and large screens, prostituted by Hollywood – the whole thing is out of order.

I’ll leave you with this…enjoy the Madness and your weekend.

DiRTy Plays – ThREesDay

Shots Up

To recap Mega Slam Wednesday, it can be said in one word, Thriller!  There were 26 teams in action last night and there was no shortage of close games, game winning attempts, blowouts, playoffs implications and injuries.  It makes you wonder why we sit here on Thursday morning and there is only one game of action tonight.  For all of you avid NBA Fantasy players you get the day off today.  I don’t know about you but I was surely disappointed to find out that Milwaukee and Indiana is the only game I will get to see tonight.  Especially considering the games that went down last night.  We started off the night with the Bulls and Raptors and the Bulls showed why they are still in the hunt in the Eastern Conference and why the Raptors are looking at another first round exit.  raptors_fallingThe Raptors have been reeling of late and given the fact that Kyle Lowry can’t seem to stay on the court over a bruised back, it doesn’t surprise me that Raptors find themselves falling hard down the stretch.  The Bulls however are starting to get healthy and with Derrick Rose seemingly ready to return to action in two weeks, they are a team to look out for moving forward.  We quickly moved to the Miami Heat game and I fully expected them to tank that game given the fact that Dwayne Wade was (resting) and Whiteside had to get ten stitches in his hand the night before.  They unpredictably came out on fire and got huge contributions from Haslem and Dragic.  While they did let the game get close they were able to pull it out and remain on top of Boston, there was a moment with about three minutes left that I thought, are they going to lose on a buzzer beater again!  The Atlanta Hawks got back on track with a victory against the Magic last night.  For all you fantasy players, this was the game to watch.  If you had Millsap, Payton and Korver, then you kicked off the night with a great start.  If you added Carroll, Harris, Teague and Vucevic then you were sitting around 275 on Fan Duel with two guys to play. George Hill hit a shot late to secure victory over the Wizards, who just like the Raptors, are looking at falling into the playoffs.  What happened to this team that started out so hot?  The only thing I can tell you is I believe it all comes down to Gortat for the Wiz.  wizards_fallingI wrote an article three weeks ago, highlighting Gortat, where I was able to determine that if he plays 30 minutes in the game then the Wiz are 19 – 3. Unfortunately, it appears that they haven’t figured this out just yet and so he continues to play around 28 minutes and they continue to lose.  Some other thrilling games were the Nets against the Hornets and I can’t believe I am saying this, the Lakers versus the Timberwolves.  Brook Lopez continued his fantasy hot streak as he lit up the Hornets for 34 points and 10 rebounds, accumulating 54+ fantasy points for only the second time all year.  The Lakers pulled out an overtime victory against Minnesota and the star of the game was Chase Budinger.  If you follow our DiRTy Plays then you would have known, he was one of our key Sleepers last night and he did not disappoint.  What I took away from these games is that if Thad Young plays, Lopez is unstoppable, if Young misses time as he got injured last night, Lopez will be an over priced center for your daily lineup.  As for the Lakers and T-Wolves, what can you say, the T-Wolves give it all they have each night.  The Lakers are quietly tanking in hopes of top 3 draft pick this summer to make one last run with Kobe.  Nothing would please me more than to see the Lakers add Kevin Love this summer, get Randle back and add a strong small forward to the mix, who can shoot threes.  You keep Lin and Clarkson as your point guards and now the Lakers might compete for the 7th or 8th seed next year.  We finished the night with Rockets holding off a late surge by the Pelicans, 95 – 93.  What was crazy about this game was the fact that the Pelicans were up 16 early in the first half, only to relinquish it in the second half.  They were down 12 when Anthony Davis jumped up and stole a full court lob.  As he came down, he tapped shoulders with Cory Brewer and went to the ground.  I immediately thought to myself, there he goes again, he can’t stay on the court and will he be another tragedy of big men who can’t stay healthy.  He did return and almost lead a come back but clearly his shoulder is going to require surgery.  I welcome the thought of an NBA player, playing through the pain, attempting to make the playoffs.  We just don’t see that these days and instead we get a bunch of guys complaining about chartered flights, back to back games and an otherwise grueling schedule #INeedRest.  Don’t get me started on that again but thank you Anthony, you put a glimmer of hope back into my mind that not everyone is as soft as these guys are today. That said, I fully expect Davis to require surgery this summer and hope that he will be back at it next season because the Pelicans are not going to make the playoffs.  The last game was the Spurs and Thunder.  A marquee matchup, highlighted by ESPN, we got what the Thunder really are, HOPELESS!  They got blown off the court and no MVP that I can remember every took a beat down like that so good-bye to this notion that Westbrook deserves to be in the MVP race.  No one put Kevin Love in the MVP race last year, while he put up 26 points and 11 rebounds per game, every night. The reason for this is simple, they didn’t WIN and neither are the Thunder.  Good thing there is only 10 games left and they have a three game lead.

It’s On The Way

Let’s have a quick breakdown of the NBA playoff picture and highlight some key games coming up over the next few days.  In the East we have a crazy race to the 8th spot. It’s going to come down to who can win games against each other down the stretch.  EasternBoston, Indiana, Charlotte and Brooklyn will probably all finish 8 or 9 games under .500 and yet they will be rewarded with a first round playoff birth against the Atlanta Hawks.  Most might think that they would get blown off the court but come playoff time a team that I think can beat the Hawks is the Indiana Pacers. It appears that Paul George is going to return here shortly and if the Pacers can squeak in, while George gets game ready, they would be a team that has the ability to compete with the Hawks.  That said only one game separates these four teams, with the Heat and Bucks, only two and four games ahead.  If one of those teams hits a cold spell or catches the injury plague then we might get two of these bottom feeders in.  It does however, appear that we are going to get three teams under .500 to make the playoffs in the East and that makes me sick!

The Western Conference is an entirely different situation.  If you watch or listen to any sports radio or talk shows on ESPN, they are constantly talking about the WesternThunder and Warriors potential matchup.  I certainly hope that last night’s beat down of the Thunder will quiet these folks.  I don’t care how well Westbrook appears to be playing.  If you actually watch his games, like I do, then you would quickly see that he loses just as many games for his team as he wins.  Yes, he is playing lights out when you look at the stat sheet and for guys like me that are constantly after fantasy value, he is your guy.  If you want to win games in the West, you cannot afford to have a turnover machine and a guy that jacks up 15 foot jumpshots with a one on four break.  That team NEEDS Durant if they are going to have any shot and that has seemingly been shot down.  Look for the Suns to make a push down the stretch and squeak in this year and leave three All-Stars watching from home.  It’s not that I don’t like the Pelicans chances but as I continue to say, Davis is hurt, he is giving it everything he can but he is not enough. Tyreke Evans is not a point guard and until the Pelicans have one that can actually take the court.  I do believe that we will have ten, yes count them, ten teams that go over .500 in the West.

Teams like the Jazz, who have been playing very well during the back half of the season are going to finish a few games under .500 for the season with a bright future.  The talks of just taking the top sixteen teams to the NBA playoffs in the future is something that I embrace.  Embrace change and think outside of the box.  It is visionary people that lead our country, fortune 500 companies and I would like to think lead our major sports.  Do we really need to watch teams that can barely beat the Nuggets on a night in a night basis for a 7 game series?  I say NO!  Make this change while at the same time rewarding the team that makes the last spot in the draft with a top 5 lottery pick.  You reward the teams that want to win and take away from the teams that seemingly want ten centers on their team, Philadelphia.  I can’t even tell any of your players apart with the exception of Noel and Covington.  Noel is your big man and Covington should be your shooting guard.  The rest should be sent to the D-League along with your management team for building a team of centers in a league full of guards.

Score It

We are introducing a new format for our DiRTy Plays as we will be posting our Absolute Must Have, Notable and Sleeper for both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  In this segment we will identify the players you should have in your lineup(s) for tonight’s games as we look to combine their matchup with their projection and rank them by salary category.  For more information and additional insight for more players and lineups be sure to check out DiRTy Plays – Week of March 23rd.  Below you will find a Free Roll that we have put together with DraftKings that is designed for only beginners.  You can click on any game, banner or highlighted phrase to be taken to the proper location.  This means, if you have NEVER played on Draftkings before, tonight is your night.  It costs you nothing to enter and if you click here or just go to our DiRTy Plays Week of March 23rd page, we will tell you how to win at this contest.  Once you win some money tonight, come back and visit us, as our lineup optimizer is almost ready for you to use, and not only will we will analyze your daily DiRTy plays for DraftKings, but for Fan Duel as well.  We always provide insight into why you should stick with certain players.  If you need some instructions on how to play on either DraftKings click here and for Fan Duel click here.  We will be adding a new segment that will also outline some of those guys that you should shy away from and why that is, so look for it soon.  Now let us show you how we are doing, as we don’t just provide info, we play too – so yes, we put our money where our mouth is so you can trust our analysis and results!

DraftKings players Special PromotionFirst-time depositors are now receiving a free $3 voucher for any sport, instead of a free $2 voucher, along with their first-time deposit bonus. As a result, our “big” low entry fee tournaments are now $3 (example: the daily $2 NBA Layup is now a much smaller contest in terms of payouts, and the daily $3 NBA Sharp Shooter is the bigger tournament in its place).

Absolute Must Have, Notable & Sleeper – New Segment

The definition for these respective categories is all based on the salary assigned to the individual for today’s games on both Fan Duel and DraftKings.  The Absolute Must Have category is designated for players with a salary above $7,000.  The Absolute Notable is for players that have a salary between $5,300 and $6,900.  Absolute Sleeper is defined as players that have a salary at or below $5,200.  We will be identifying the best player for these respective salary ranges each day and you should take all three of these individuals as they have the best matchup and the projection combination for the day.  You will then be able to review the next section where we outline some additional players to complete your lineup and finished off with a lineup to consider for each site.
